Description

The Program Worker, under the direction of the Executive Director or Designate, is responsible to work collaboratively with the Program Coordinator and other staff to create a culturally safe and appropriate space that is welcoming to our most vulnerable Indigenous brothers and sisters.

The Program Worker will act as a first point of contact for those accessing the Drop In and facilitate effective delivery of meals and programming as required.

REQUIREMENTS:

Qualifications:
Two (2) year Postsecondary education in Indigenous studies, Social Service work, or a

- combination of equivalent and relevant education;

Minimum two (2) years of demonstrated and related work experience within a homelessness

- and/or social service setting;

Minimum of 2 years of experience working within an Indigenous organization or community;
Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture, and both historical and contemporary
Indigenous issues. Emphasis being on the impacts of trauma and community outreach;
Must have the ability to work collaboratively with the Program Coordinator, Intake Worker, and

- other housing workers to strengthen better outcomes for Indigenous community members
- including, development and delivery of effective programming to meet the needs of those
- accessing services and supports at the HRIC Homelessness Drop In Centre;

Ability to prepare and distribute food, drinks, and supplies to community members;
Training and/or experience in crisis intervention, deescalation and conflict resolution;
Must have excellent written, verbal, time management, and organizational skills;
Must be flexible and willing to work occasional evenings and weekends;
Possess a valid driver's licence with access to a reliable vehicle and be willing to travel when

- required; and,

Ability to obtain a satisfactory CPIC
Vulnerable Sector Search within 30 days of employment
