Resident Support Team Leader

Position Type:
Regular part time - 48 hours bi-weekly


Position Summary


Provide a welcoming, safe, and secure environment for women accessing The Salvation Army Women's Shelter and support them in providing referrals to housing, community programming and needed resources.

This position also provides supervision, support, coaching, and guidance to Resident Support Workers.


Hours/Schedule
Regular part time - 48 hours bi-weekly.

Friday to Sunday, 3:30 pm to 12:00 am.


Key Responsibilities

  • Work alongside Resident Support Workers, volunteers, and practicum students to complete job duties.
  • Conduct intake interviews resident intakes, goal setting and interviews.
  • Monitor the activities of residents and maintains availability of personal, practical, and moral support.
  • Maintain strong communication (written and verbal) for the benefits of resident and the program.
  • Transport meals from the Centre of Hope to the Women's Shelter.
  • Liaise with Spiritual and Religious Care team members, internal referral sources and other agencies (e.g., welfare, police, parole, DOAP Team, PACT Team).
  • Complete resident assessment, admission, and orientation.
  • Perform Resident Support Worker duties and other related tasks when needed.
  • Provide training to new Resident Support Workers.
  • Provide resident advocacy as needed.
  • Accurately completes various documentation, records, logbooks, reports, and statistics.
  • Develop shift schedules for the Resident Support Workers.
  • Review policies procedures, and program guidelines, as well as resident information and forms.
  • Participate in annual program planning.

Required Education, Experience, Competencies and Skills

  • Completed two years of Community College in a related field (i.e., social work).
  • Current Standard First Aid certification with Level A or C CPR from an Alberta approved training provider.
  • Proof of registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers if you have a social work diploma/degree.
  • Class 5 Drivers License and satisfactory drivers abstract.
  • One year but less than three years of prior related experience, including frontline work in a social service setting.
  • Knowledge of Alberta traffic laws and safety.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Attentive listening and observation of body language and able to monitor and read the environment.
  • Able to stay calm in stressful situations.
  • Computer skills including MS Outlook, Word and ability to use keyboard; familiarity with databases.
  • Demonstrated trauma informed care, nonviolent crisis intervention and deescalation skills.
  • Able to pack and life resident belongings.
  • Able to stand for long periods of time and do walk abouts within and outside of the building.
  • Background check consent
  • A satisfactory Police Information Check (PIC) with Vulnerable Sector search
  • Our online Armatus Abuse Training, and required Health and Safety training
