Position Summary

Languages
The CBA delivers services in both of Canada's official languages. Fluent bilingual skills, both written and oral, are an asset.


Annual Salary
$110,000 to $120,000 per year


Responsibilities

  • Works with CBA volunteers, staff, internal stakeholders, lawyers, and external consultants to develop and implement CBA National PD conferences and programs delivered inperson and via online webinars
  • Reviews, analyzes and assesses legal trends and emerging issues on an ongoing basis to identify the PD services and programs required to meet member and market needs
  • Leads the review and analysis of all PD activities, programs, and conferences as required
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and operational support to multidisciplinary teams to ensure the effective delivery of programs and projects
  • Monitors and advises on trends in legal PD to enhance the quality and delivery of PD content
  • Monitor and supervise departmental frameworks for risk and financial management of departmental conference planning and PD activities
  • Monitors and reports departmental financial reporting, identify anomalies, and collaborates with the Finance Department to execute corrective action
  • Works with the CBA Communications and Marketing Department to develop and implement the PD promotion strategy and to design and develop appropriate publicity and promotional materials
  • Identifies target markets, works with marketing to craft key promotional points and calls to action, and ensures effective delivery of promotional and marketing material
  • Consult with CBA Provincial/Territorial Branch to ensure coordination of PD offerings
  • Ensure PD programs meet law society accreditation guidelines and oversee and undertake accreditation processes where applicable
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education

  • An undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
  • A law degree and eligibility for membership in a Canadian Law Society is considered a strong asset

Experience

  • Minimum 5 to 8 years of management experience leading and directing teams in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Minimum of 5+ years of PD experience in a law firm or other setting and/or 5+ years of relevant legal practice
  • Experience leading change management is considered an asset
  • Experience or training in adult education programming and delivery is considered an asset
  • Experience with learning management systems is considered an asset
  • Experience working in a nonprofit and/or memberbased association is considered an asset

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent leadership skills and experience with a track recording leading in multidisciplinary teams
  • Excellent ability to lead the development of operational processes and design departmental strategy within the context of a larger organization
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and French is an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including tact and diplomacy
  • Excellent knowledge of the Canadian legal system and PD framework
  • Strong ability to mitigate risk in decision making
  • Strong ability to work with all professional levels
  • Strong ability to plan, organize, and prioritize assignments
  • Strong ability to align PD development initiatives with organizational goals
  • Selfmotivated; Ability to work with mínimal supervision
  • Advanced computer skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and to meet competing deadlines
  • Ability to understand and respond to developing and current technologies and their potential use in PD
  • Availability to work overtime and to travel as circumstances warrant
