DEscriptION:

Reporting to our HR Manager, this HR Generalist plays an important role in our HR/Payroll team by supporting our 142 stores in eight provincial jurisdictions in the areas of employee relations and health & safety.

The Generalist also provides support for total rewards programs and policy & procedure development and communication.

All with the purpose of maintaining our culture and Values while helping our Store Managers effectively manage their teams and serve their Customers.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

***Associate Relations

  • Support and provide advice and direction to Associates and Managers in our stores across the country regarding employee relations issues, including corrective action, legal compliance, conflict resolution and terminations.
  • Work closely with District Managers, Store Operations and Loss Prevention to support investigations.
Health & Safety

  • Manage workers' compensation claims, ensuring compliance with provincial boards, supporting early and safe return to work programs and providing analysis of our claims experience.
  • Report and provide analysis of workplace accident trends and provide recommendations for prevention.
  • Update and maintain all Health & Safety Programs including documentation, training & communications, JHSC support and First Aid training.
Salary & Compensation

  • Assist with administration and communication of compensation programs including bonus, merit, and pay scale changes.
  • Provide support for compensation survey submissions.
Policies & Procedures

  • Interpret and support policies and procedures. Monitor legislative developments that may require policy changes and assist with updates and communication as required.
Associate & HR Program Support

  • Act as first point of contact for Associates in our stores and respond to or redirect enquiries regarding HR related issues.
  • Support HR analytics by preparing reports and providing analysis.
  • Act as a backup for other HR functions such as recruiting and provide support for various HR initiatives
  • Other special projects as required.

RELATIONSHIPS & WORKING ENVIRONMENT:


  • Internal: All areas of the business including Home Office and Stores.
  • External: Federal and provincial government agencies, consultants, etc.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Experience:


  • Minimum 23 years of HR experience with retail and/or multijurisdiction experience being an asset.
  • Experience in at least one of the areas of employee relations or health & safety/workers' compensation.
  • Post secondary education in Human Resources or a related discipline.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and experience using an HRIS/Payroll platform.
  • Ability to manage multiple demands and prioritize tasks while remaining detailoriented.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with an active listening approach.
