OUR COMPANY
PWO Canada is an automotive manufacturer that is located in Kitchener, Ontario. Main production is stamping, and MAG Welding.

We are currently looking for an experienced and skilled Robotic Technician with previous experience in manufacturing (automotive preferred) to join our team.

PURPOSE OF POSITION
The purpose of the Robotic Technician is to support the production department with machine troubleshooting, repairs and maintenance.

Robotic technicians also work with other departments as required including Quality and Engineering to support line improvements and installations as required.

Our automated systems include Multi-Robot welding cells, resistance and friction welding cells, metal forming lines, as well as a large stamping area.


NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION
The position is responsible for supporting automated systems used to meet Production requirements.

Common tasks include performing preventative maintenance outlined in the TPM (Total Preventative Maintenance) and PM (Preventative Maintenance) plans, breakdown maintenance and supporting other departments with projects.

Electrical troubleshooting skills, experience with AB or Siemens PLC's and Fanuc or Motoman Robots, along with a working knowledge of both pneumatic and hydraulic systems are all strong assets.

The position will also work within the Press shop and other areas as required.

This position is encouraged to work with our external vendors which include robotic and electrical suppliers for replacement parts, contractors, and PWO personnel from other subsidiaries.

The incumbent may be involved with the training/mentoring of apprentices and co-op students as required.

A strong sense of ownership/accountability for their work and a strong desire to learn and drive improvements will contribute to them succeeding in this position.


The incumbent is responsible for his/her own work and may be responsible for the work of others if chosen to train an apprentice.

Decisions made by the position impact the department in the short term.

He/she must provide their own personal tools, all large items or special items will be provided by PWO Canada Inc.


QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
Completion of a College Automation/Robotics Technical program or applicable trade certificate and work experience. An Ontario Certificate of Qualification as an Electrician is an asset.


Knowledge and Skills:
Strong knowledge of electrical troubleshooting, automation, basic machining and fabrication, mechanical systems. Knowledge of robotic and resistance welding, pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Experience with Fanuc and/or Motoman robotic systems. Ability to work independently and think of creative ways to approach problems.

Incumbents with a knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) programming, trouble shooting AB/Siemens, and Autocad as it applies to electrical schematic maintenance an asset.


Communication Skills:
Strong oral and written communication skills are required for normal technical/business communication.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Troubleshooting of machinery production problems as required.
  • Maintains and repairs robotic weld cells, stamping presses, assembly machines, as required.
  • Devises innovative ways of improving existing robotics and other machinery.
  • Sources replacement parts through electrical suppliers as required.
  • Directs apprentices. Checks the work of others to ensure the quality of their work. Directs the work of operators in order to learn about and troubleshoot any problems.
  • Efficient use of electronic data collection equipment.
  • Performs all duties within the 5S standards.
  • Ensures work completed complies with the appropriate and applicable standards.
  • Follows and performs to the instructions as outlined in the Work Area Reference Manual (s) applicable to the department.
  • Follows and performs to the processed and instructions as outlined in the Process House applicable to the department.
  • Compliance to all company HR policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for working safely, complying with safety policies and procedures, and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) required in the designated areas as per company policy.
  • Responsible for working safely and keeping a safe work area for themselves and fellow employees. Reporting any unsafe working conditions, practices, and workrelated injuries immediately to his/her Supervisor or Manager.
  • Any other jobrelated duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Supervisor and Manager.
