Team & Job Overview


The Insurance Analytics team is responsible for providing a variety of analytics across the Insurance and Working Capital Solutions products as part of the Small Business and Partnerships Group.

They are responsible for supporting the performance and integrity of all products of the Group through analytics in support of informed decision making.

Their responsibilities include the development and maintenance of credit and pricing models, advancing business & predictive analytics and forecasting.

These activities are undertaken with a view to providing market-driven insurance & working capital solutions to meet the needs of the Canadian trade community and our 2030 Strategy.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development, monitoring and updating of credit and pricing models and tools for the purposes of risk management and credit granting decisionmaking.
  • Mine data and collect and manipulate large and complex (incomplete) data files.
  • Support and develop underwriting and risk management capabilities for the underwriting and management of insurance and guarantee solutions.
  • Create scoring, rating, and decision models for transactional and portfolio management teams to use for streamlining, automating, and standardizing credit granting decisionmaking.
  • Develop, review, implement, and monitor credit and portfolio risk warning systems, standards and procedures to proactively identify, control and assess credit risk.
  • Develop and document standards and processes related to the development, methodology selection, testing, validation, calibration and usage of models and tools.
  • Support the development and monitoring of key performance indicators of pricing/automation strategies.
  • Responsible for establishing, maintaining, and monitoring principles, processes and standards for credit granting and surveillance.
  • Research, reviews, and implements best practices in risk rating and pricing to support team and corporate goals.
  • Proactively identifies opportunities to make continuous improvements to models, guidelines and processes.
  • Contributes to and/or presents business cases to management and/or senior management identifying portfolio risks and recommending tactics to support the generation of efficiencies in systems and processes derived from automation.
  • Supports the development of a nextgen predictive analytics strategy, implementation, and monitoring functions.
  • Engages in stakeholder consultation, management, and training.

Screening Criteria

  • Undergraduate Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Business Administration, Finance, or relevant discipline
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in data modelling, quantitative analysis and modeling skills, credit risk management or related experience
  • Advanced programming experience in the management and manipulation of large and complex data files (MS-Excel, R, VBA, SAS EG/SAS Viya, SQL, Python, etc.)
  • Analytics related skills (data sourcing, data management, data manipulation, text analytics, modelling and interpretation)
  • Advanced knowledge of credit risk management, accounting, insurance, banking and/or finance principles and practices
  • Advanced knowledge of statistical analysis, data mining and predictive modelling
  • Team player, with strong interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities
