One of the key responsibilities of cook is to maintain highest standards in nutrition and food served, which is critical for healthy development of a child.


What will you be doing? As a
Cook, you will prepare nutritious meals for breakfast, lunch, and snacks for the children in our care.


Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing all meals in accordance with all health regulations, and ensuring food is properly cooked.
  • Responsible for removal of food and collection of plates and utensils at each scheduled meal.
  • Washing and sanitizing all dishes, utensils, and putting the dishes away for all scheduled meals.
  • Compiling weekly inventories of food in preparation for the upcoming week.
  • Maintaining clean and sanitary work station area; including tables, shelves, grills, broilers, fryers, pasta cookers, convection oven, flat top range and refrigeration equipment and take out the garbage as required.
  • Responsible for cooking and preparing the predetermined menu and substituting any meals for children with sensitivities or dietary restrictions. All substitutions will require approval, and they must meet the same nutritional value.
  • Responsible for posting the menus, and substitutes, if made during the day. May assist in creating menus from time to time.
  • Responsible for ensuring all Individual Care Plans (ICP) are posted in the kitchen, are uptodate, and accurate.
  • Staff must understand all ICP's, allergies and food restrictions for every child. All food must be prepared according to these plans.
  • Receive all food and cleaning deliveries and ensure they are accurate with purchase order
  • Ratio coverage, and support in the classroom when needed.
  • Follow all cleaning schedules as set up by the school.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time.

Requirements:


  • Food Handling Certification
  • 12 years kitchen/culinary experience is preference.
  • Must be able to function in a kitchen environment (eg; Cutting, Chopping, Grilling, Following Recipes)
  • Strong understanding of health, food and nutrition
  • Effective time management skills
  • Experience cooking for large groups would be an asset

Qualifications:


  • Diploma/Certificate in Culinary Arts or Food Management
  • Food Handler's Certificate
  • Health and Safety Certificate
  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C
  • Vulnerable Sector Criminal Reference Check (within the last six months)
