At the Upstream Lab, our research is driven by the desire to promote health equity and address social determinants of health.

Our research focus is broken down into three streams: 1) Integrating health and social care by addressing social needs of individuals in the healthcare settings; 2) population health management, and 3) data to enable proactive care.

This is an exciting time to join our growing team


We are currently looking to hire several
Research Assistants I, to support a variety of projects in our lab including a number of systematic reviews.

The person in this role may also support a national adaptive platform trial to evaluate treatments for COVID in out-patient and community settings.


Integrated within a busy, multidisciplinary team, the successful applicant will work closely with research staff, and report to the principal investigator and/or research staff.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in literature searches and reviews
  • Conducts citation and full text screening for systematic reviews
  • Extraction of data from literature
  • Screening participants in person and/or over the phone
  • Recruiting and consenting participants in person and/or over the phone
  • Performs other duties as required

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree or masters of science/Public heath degree preferred or demonstrable equivalent combination of specialized education and experience
  • Experience with literature searches and reviews, an asset
  • Familiarity with online databases of peer reviewed literature (i.e. Medline, PubMed, PsychInfo) an asset
  • Familiarity with reference software (e.g. Zotero, Mendeley etc)
  • Demonstrated experience with use of MS excel
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical and scientific terminology
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills are necessary
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent attention to detail and proven ability to learn new skills
  • Excellent organizations skills to manage multiple tasks in a timely manner and flexibility to adapt to changing workload
  • Able to keep written records
  • Able to understand written and verbal directions
  • Experience interacting with participants and obtaining informed consent, an asset
This is a casual position with variable hours of work. Work will fluctuate based on project needs with preference of minimum 10 hours/week, as needed. Option to work remotely or in-person.
