SALARY RANGE:
$ $47.62 per hour

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Manager of the Diagnostic Assessment Programs and Clinical Genetics, the Genetic Counsellor provides genetic assessment and counselling for individuals and families with a medical history of, or at increased risk for, having a child with a birth defect or genetic condition, or who are themselves at risk for a genetic disorder, including hereditary predisposition to cancer.
The Genetic Counsellor assists individuals and families to comprehend the medical facts, including the diagnosis, the etiology, and the available management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master of Science in Genetic Counselling from an accredited university.
- Certification by American Board of Genetic Counselors and/or Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors is preferred.
- Recent genetic counselling experience (minimum of 1 year in a clinical setting) is preferred.
- Proven critical thinking skills, organizational skills, decisionmaking skills, and ability to readily comprehend and disseminate complex and rapidly changing genetic information.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current literature and relevant developments in clinical practice and research.
- Demonstrated ability to identify psychodynamic, ethnocultural, and ethical issues and alter to counselling plan of care appropriately.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively as a member of the health care team and to take initiative and leadership as appropriate.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Effective organizational and time management skills
- Demonstrate critical thinking, problem solving, analytical skills using evidencebased best practices.
- Effective computer skills at an intermediate level (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio, Publisher.

- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety and environmental safety and participation in regular inservice education in this area.
