CASEWORKER (Community Service Order)

Division:
Community and Justice


Reports to:
Manager, Adult and Youth Services

Work Status:
Temporary - Part Time


Salary:
$21.81 per hour


Duration:
Until March 31, 2024


Location:
All JHS Durham Offices and Community Locations as Required

Travel:
Yes, as required (mileage reimbursement)

Hours: 10 to 12 hours per week (Will require flexibility)


About the Role:


The Community Service Order Caseworker will work with individuals referred by the Probation and Parole office who have a condition to volunteer in the community as part of their sentence.

The CSO Case Worker will utilize their mediation and collaboration skills in the supervision and support to the client in their efforts to complete placement.

The CSO Caseworker also develops placement opportunities within Durham Region, maintains case notes and statistical reports, and communicates with partnership organizations.


You will be working on things like

Service User support:


  • Paying close attention to file details, determine appropriate placements incorporating the individual's strengths and interests as well as limitations
  • Utilize brief counselling strategies and trauma informed lens to support individuals through the process of completing CSO hours
  • Utilize knowledge of justice system to provide accurate information to service users, community organizations and the public
  • Deliver services in a way that reflects the racial, cultural, linguistic, and gender specific needs of the individual and placement organization
  • Uses creativity to support alternative placement options

Case Management and Documentation:


  • Accepts referrals from lead partnership organization
  • Maintains client and placement documentation, and case records
  • Maintains up to date, professional reports and submits them on time
  • Maintains uptodate program statistical information

Community:


  • Develops and fosters relationships with community organizations within Durham Region to promote and support existing and new CSO placements
  • Utilizes mediation and collaboration skills to maintain placement opportunities
  • Attends and participates in partnership and agency/staff committees and meetings as required
  • Maintains accessible, relevant, responsive, and quality

Requirements:


  • Post secondary diploma or degree in justice studies or social work.
  • An understanding of justiceinvolved and highrisk individuals and situations
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail
  • Solid professional boundaries
  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening is required
  • Ability to contribute to the greater team
  • Able to work within a flexible schedule
  • Adheres to program policies and procedures

Working Conditions

  • May be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc
  • Must be able to work in all JHS Durham Locations as well as locations within the community
  • Physical activity includes sitting, walking, and standing
  • COVID19 protocols and policies are in place, PPE is provided
  • Must be willing to undergo a Police Vulnerable Sector Check
  • JHS Durham is currently certified with C.U.P.E
