Summary of Duties:

The Lactation Consultant is responsible for providing a supportive and nurturing environment for antenatal and postpartum women.

The main functions of the Lactation Consultant include, but are not limited to:
identifying and consulting on basic and complex breastfeeding problems and developing appropriate breastfeeding plans.

In addition, the Lactation Consultant will be required to:

Teach breastfeeding classes to both groups and one on one
Provide breastfeeding aides correctly
Collaborate with other disciplines to plan care
Act as a referral resource for both antenatal and breastfeeding women
Attend quarterly Breastfeeding Clinic Meetings
Participate in scheduled Journal Club Meetings
Participate in extra Breastfeeding Clinic projects

Qualifications/Skills

IBCLC certificate is mandatory
Recent related experience ideally in an outpatient breastfeeding clinic is mandatory
Demonstrated evidence of selfdirected practice
Demonstrated good clinical judgement and problem solving skills
Experienced with High Risk Neonates required
CPR certification is required
