Job Summary:


Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Ensure the daytoday operations of the HWMS are conducted in a manner that protects the public and the environment and the HWMS is maintained in clean, safe and compliant conditions.
  • Operate onsite heavy equipment (e.g. compactor, bulldozer, frontend loader, backhoe, water truck and forklift) safely and efficiently to accomplish various landfill tasks.
  • Inspects loads for acceptable and unacceptable materials.
  • Educate and enforce regulations related to waste management through interactions with customers of the HWMS.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications:


Essential

  • Minimum of secondary school diploma.
  • A certificate in heavy equipment operation of a track type dozer and/or a minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience operating a track type dozer and other heavy equipment.
  • Mechanical aptitude with basic equipment maintenance knowledge.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and conflict resolution skills are required to assist customers and contractors.
  • Possess computer skills and experience working with Microsoft Office, Excel and Word.
  • Possession of "DZ" or "AZ" driver's license.

Preferred

  • Project management training is preferred to assist with small to medium projects on site, including road construction and preventative maintenance programs.

Working/ Employment Conditions:


Working Conditions

  • This position is located at the Halton Waste Management Site (HWMS).
  • The position requires work to be performed in inclement weather conditions and challenging terrain (e.g. steep, slippery slopes).
  • Requires heavy lifting in excess of 20 kg.
  • The position requires operation of a Regional vehicle, therefore, an offer of employment will only be made on condition.
  • Must be flexible with working hours to accommodate Saturday work throughout the year and Sunday mornings in May and June.

Employment Conditions

  • Provides a valid class "G" Ontario driver's license, although a DZ or AZ would be preferred.
  • The incumbent will be required to drive a Regional vehicle and will be required to provide a copy of their driver's license and a driver's abstract, by their first day of employment.
