The Grounds Professional works with the Grounds team to maintain and enhance all exterior areas of the St. George's School properties, but applies special attention to the three turf grass athletic fields between the two campuses.

This is a seasonal position that concludes mid to late October, and can be renewed on an annual basis if desired.

Responsibilities will include:

Being an effective member of a cohesive team of grounds professionals.
Adhering to guidelines and policies relating to grounds use and management.
Responsible for the maintenance of sports field turf: top dressing, seeding, fertilizing, mowing, aerating, edging, weed control, watering.
Performing line painting on sports fields for sports events.
Schedules and maintains irrigation systems.
Helps support the maintenance of machinery and equipment.
Develop and implement IPM strategies.
Adheres to Works Safe BC standards.
Assists with planning for and implementing special events on the school grounds.
Assists the grounds teams with soft and hard landscaping as required: planting flower beds, trimming trees/shrubs, maintaining outdoor fixtures, and performing work on retaining walls, tiered gardens, pathways, paving stone patios, and signage.
Performing seasonal work, such as raking leaves, chipping ice, clearing drains, salting when necessary.
Any other activities as directed by the Head of Grounds.

Qualifications will include:

1 years' experience managing high use sports turf grass is an asset.
Turf related machinery (ride on mowers) and tractor with implements experience an asset.
Irrigation experience is considered an asset.
Horticultural soft and hard landscaping experience an asset.
Mechanical aptitude.
High level of physical energy.
Able to lift 50 lbs.
Ability to multitask.
Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
Strong organizational and records keeping abilities.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated professionalism.
Commitment to an independent school work environment.
Current Class 5 or higher BC Driver's License.
