Neecheewam Inc. has a
Full-Time Key Counsellor Position "A" available at the Little Butterfly Healing Lodge.

Shifts are
Saturday & Sunday 3pm to 11pm, Monday 2pm to 11pm, Friday 2pm to 9pm Saturday & Sunday 8am to 3pm, Monday 8am to 4pm and is part of a rotating schedule.

The applicant must be available for all shifts. The Little Butterfly Healing Lodge is a three-bed home for all nations young women ages 12-17 years old. We offer long term placement and programming.

This home is also specific to youth who have demonstrated behaviours that indicate a high need for additional structure, supervision, and support.


Neecheewam is a professionally staffed community-based organization designed to meet the unique and individual needs of Indigenous youth requiring safe care. Treatment and healing from an Indigenous perspective will be realized through The Seven Sacred Teachings, which honour the universal values shared by all First Nations.

a) Working in harmony with community -based programming and support services including public schools, youth justice, and mental health.

b) Recognizing, honouring, and promoting our children's and youth's Indigenous heritage and identity, in both traditional and contemporary ways of life.

c) Encouraging and supporting the children and youth we work with in acquiring the knowledge, skills, and confidence to transition into responsible, productive adults.


Responsibilities/ Duties:

Ø Aware of the whereabouts of all residents always, as per program dictates and policies.

Ø Assist with wake-up and bed-time routines.

Ø Manage and direct all daily program activities.

Ø Transport residents to appointments (medical & other) and any activities as required.

Ø Direction and participation in daily chores.

Ø Assist the residents in planning recreational activities.

Ø Active involvement with residents in activities within the facility and in the community.

Ø Encourage and assist with individual resident interest in lessons in sports, music, or other endeavors.

Ø Assist in planning meals and grocery shopping.

Ø Meal preparation-cooking and baking.

Ø Teaching the residents about nutrition and healthy eating habits.

Ø Participate in staff meetings and other meetings as requested.

Ø Review all provincial programs and licensing standards and assist with their implementation in the program.

Ø Provide input into all documentation, record keeping and report writing as required.

Ø Involvement in learning opportunities and development of an attitude that promotes a relevance for learning in young people.

Ø Develop an attitude that promotes positive teamwork and exhibits a high degree of positive role-modeling for young people.


Key Qualifications Required:

Ø Child & Youth Care Diploma preferred. Experience working with children, at-risk and sexually exploited youth. Education of youth with addiction, substance abuse and trauma.

Ø Knowledge and appreciation of the Indigenous Culture, Traditions and Seven Sacred Teachings. Strong knowledge of the issues affecting our children, families, and communities.

Ø Knowledge of the impacts of colonization and intergenerational trauma.


Ø Have demonstrated leadership qualities and must be able to work independently and as a valued team member and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.


Ø Ability to conduct oneself in a professional capacity when dealing with all CFS Agencies or any other related external organizations.

Ø Organizational, problem solving, and analytical skills are necessary and possess a high level of advocacy skills.

Ø Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be confident in decision making.

Ø Valid Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse Registry Check, and Prior Contact Check are required.

Ø Valid First Aid/CPR required.

Ø
Valid Driver's License is required.

Pay:
$19.01-$24.70 per hour
