Position Summary:


The Payroll Administrators work collaboratively and are responsible for the processing of a biweekly payroll for over 1500 non-union and unionized hospital employees in a timely manner.

The hospital's payroll is entirely an in-house function, and as such, includes all aspects of payroll administration.


Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Effectively communicating and coordinating with directors, managers, supervisors and employees regarding payroll information
  • Weekly review and audit of online time and attendance data and payroll audit reports
  • Biweekly and monthly preparation of Accounts Payable cheque requisitions and maintaining various reports for reconciliations, verifications, employee withholdings, benefit entitlements, etc.
  • Plan and perform biweekly Union billing, and monthly Report On Hiring government requirements
  • Plan and perform the annual reporting and auditing requirement for government remittances, T4s, Hospital Pension Plan, and vacation plans
  • Calculating and entering of Maternity leave topup payments as well as calculating pension and benefit contribution owing for duration of leave. Updating the employees schedule template in Kronos to maintain accurate seniority.
  • Ensuring compliance through detailed knowledge of hospital policies, procedures and union agreements
  • To process manual cheques for all request missed shifts, grievance, settlement etc. by manually calculating the statutory deductions, pensions, and other deductions required, manually entering all the pay and deduction codes in the system in order to generate a manual cheque and then print.
  • Responsible for calculating and processing retroactive pay on a timely manner by gathering all the actual time data based on collective bargaining mandated date determine agreed upon between Human Resources and Union Representatives.

Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Abilities:


  • Post Secondary degree/diploma, Payroll Administrator Certification, and/or recent related payroll experience
years demonstrated knowledge and recent experience successfully administering the payroll process

  • Excellent computer skills, including intermediate level Excel
  • Great attention to and passion for detailed work
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a high volume, fast paced environment while meeting deadlines
  • Demonstrated analytical analysis and decision making skills, along with the ability to create and implement appropriate solutions
  • Working knowledge of Meditech and Kronos systems is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a selfdirected manner as well as collaboratively within a team in a fastpaced and everchanging environment
