KEY OBJECTIVE:

In this role, you will independently underwrite small and mid-market Commercial Insurance Property & Casualty renewals and mid-term endorsements. The Commercial Express ('CE')

Underwriting Team is responsible for the Canadian CE portfolio:
a large and diverse book of renewal business with a streamlined underwriting and service model.

The CE Underwriting Team works with brokers across the country and handles customers across a wide range of Industry Practices including Professional Services, Manufacturing, Wholesale, Real Estate, Financial Institutions, Energy, Entertainment, and Technology.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Gather and analyze account information and make sound underwriting recommendations and decisions;
  • Provide excellent customer service, including handling risk inquiries and correspondence from brokers in a sound and timely manner;
  • Follow underwriting strategies and service plans that align with the Company's financial goals;
  • Execute upon specific underwriting, rate, and/or service plans and strategies that meet or exceed personal and portfolio targets;
  • Develop and establish relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Collaborate with team members and contribute to an engaging work environment and culture;
  • Contribute to projects as required to improve the business and continually develop personal and professional skills.
  • University degree or College diploma, or equivalent work experience is required;
  • Excellent communication skills—bilingualism in English and French considered an asset;
  • CIP designation or completed CIP courses considered an asset;
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant professional work experience, including but not limited to underwriting;
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to follow up independently and effectively prioritize tasks;
  • Strong customer service and sales skills experience in dealing with brokers and other business partners considered an asset;
  • Proven ability to solve problems independently and with success;
  • Ability to work independently as well as being a strong team player, in a multitask environment; High degree of technical knowledge attained in current job.
