Position Profile:


The Youth Worker will assist with the responsibility of overseeing and managing the daily operations of the Transitional Housing Program.

The Youth Worker provides supervision and immediate supportive and/or crisis counseling to youth out of the transitional house and ensures the safety and security of the youth, staff and the premises.

The day shifts run from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. The evening shift runs from 3:30 pm to 11:30 pm. The overnight shifts run from 11:00 pm to 9:00 am.


Role Overview:


  • Complete intake and support with facilitating programs for youth entering the Transitional Housing Program.
  • Lead and implement a client driven care path plan by following up with residents on outstanding documents or actions required.
  • Provide a positive environment to youth joining the Transitional Housing Program.
  • Form professional relationships with a broad spectrum of community service agencies to be able to refer youth.
  • Assist youth in daily routines including cooking, cleaning and life skills development.
  • Complete intakes, answer phones, and monitor building for safety including the completion of hourly security checks.
  • Provide supervision, support and/or crisis counseling to youth in the Transitional Housing Program.
  • Maintain positive and open communication with the staff team.
  • Complete documentation of shift activities and incidents in appropriate logs and client records.
  • Enter client data for monthly, quarterly and annual funding reports.
  • Support in facilitating the weekly resident meetings.
  • All other duties as required in the successful management of program and shelter operations while partnering with all stakeholders in support of organizational success.

Qualifications:


  • Diploma in Social Services or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • 12 years' experience working with youth in a shelter/residential setting.
  • Knowledge of homelessness, mental health and addictions an asset.
  • Knowledge of housing first for youth, traumainformed care, and harm reduction practices an asset.
  • Knowledge of resources within the Region of Peel, specifically for youth.
  • Effective problem solving, conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts including some weekends and holidays.
  • A valid Ontario's full G Driver's Licence is an asset, with a clean driver's abstract. If applicable, a $2,000,000 minimum liability car insurance coverage is required.
  • Valid CPI/UMAB and First Aid/CPR certifications.
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check that meets the standards of Our Place Peel.
  • Must be flexible to work between Brampton and Mississauga locations as needed.
