TEACHER OF THE DEAF / HARD OF HEARING FTE CONTINUINGThe District is seeking a Teacher of the Deaf / Hard of Hearing. This is an itinerant district position working out of the Henry Grube Education Centre effective September 1, 2024. Travel will be required.This is a position of Special Responsibility and will be filled by competition.Services provided by this position include:Participate as a member of transdisciplinary team and consult with school-based, District and community partners to assist with the inclusion of learners with identified hearing differences;Interpret the learners hearing differences and implications of these hearing differencesAssess the level of support requiredCoordinate and prepare Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students designated with hearing differenceCoordinate referrals for hearing assessments, BC Deaf Education Committee (BCDEC), and Auditory Outreach Provincial Resource Program (POPDHH) referrals etc.Identify and order materials and technology and coordinate hearing technology repairMonitor learner use of hearing aids, FM systems and other technology that assists student learning and communicationProvide the classroom teacher with information regarding the role of Education Assistants in the implementation of strategies for students who are Deaf / Hard of hearingProvide or arrange professional development/inservice surrounding hearing and hearing differences for learners, teachers and paraprofessionalsProvide consultation for parents of learners with hearing differencesModel and provide information regarding inclusive practicesHelp develop self-advocacy for students with identified hearing differencesCoordinate Kindergarten hearing screenings and referralsQualifications:Valid BC Teaching CertificateDiploma or Masters degree in Education of the Deaf / Hard of HearingRecent Classroom Teaching Experience (minimum 2 years)Valid BC Drivers LicenseFluency in American Sign Language (Preferred)Deadline: Wednesday, May 15, 2024 @ 12PMLetters of application complete with resumes and the names of at least three references must be submitted to:John Wiedrick, Associate Superintendent - Human Resources School District No. 73 (Kamloops-Thompson)1383 9th Avenue, Kamloops, BC V2C 3X7 Phone or Fax Email: School District No. 73 is anequal opportunity employer. to $106,217, prorated to FTE. Placement on the grid is based on length of
