Job Summary_

We are looking to hire caring, service-oriented, and physically capable
Personal Support Workers (PSW)for full
- and part-time positions at both of our Ottawa South locations—at Barrhaven and the Bank and Hunt Club. Under the direction of the Resident Care Coordinator, PSW Workers must be "competent" as defined by the Occupational Health and Safety Act "Competency Criteria," under "Qualifications."

Primary Duties & Responsibilities_

  • Participate in all aspects of resident care, while remaining constantly vigilant with regard to ensuring the safety of our residents
  • Contribute to conserving a reassuring environment that meets the physical, emotional, spiritual, and psychosocial needs of our residents.
  • Encourage and assist residents' participation in recreational and rehabilitation programs
  • Assist with the preparation and serving of meals, nourishments, and dietary supplements
  • Establish and preserve a good rapport with residents' families and significant others, offering support as appropriate
  • Look after the neatness of residents' rooms, e.g., drawers, closets, bathrooms, etc; and common areas such as utility rooms, serveries, and bathrooms
  • Operate firefighting equipment and participate in fire safety demonstrations and fire drills ; and become fully familiar with the residence's fire and disaster plan
  • Acquire appropriate professional development activities that enhance your skills and abilities
  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation as regards residents' care
  • Commit to meeting and maintaining The Waterford's health standards, operational policies, and values.

Required Qualifications:
Education, Skills & Experience
_

  • Secondary school Diploma, or equivalent, or alternatively—
  • A Diploma or Certificate in PSW, Health Care, or Social Work
  • Experience as a Health Care Aide in gerontology, or a related field, is preferred
  • Effective interpersonal communication, leadership, and conflict resolution skills
  • Capability to concentrate and perform duties in a rapidly changing work environment that 's often bustling with unforeseen interruptions
  • Willingness to perform shift work within a 7daysaweek operation
  • Computer literacy is considered an asset.

Special Working Conditions_

  • Some heavy lifting both with, and without, assistance for essential and nonessential job functions, e.g., standard lifting alone up to 25 lbs. (40 lbs. max); lifting with assistance up to 125 lbs. (160 lbs. max)
  • In the event of critical injuries and or serious symptoms of illnesses—PSW workers may be called upon to arrange prompt transportation for treatment, and document the event according to residence policy
  • Wear personal protective equipment and clothing as required for special tasks or MSDS, also according to residence policy.

$17.03-$18.09 per hour
