Position Overview:


The Human Resources Intern plays a vital role in supporting the Human Resources Manager with various functions essential to the smooth operation of the department.

This role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities including employee file maintenance, recruitment and selection, special projects, and involvement in the HRIS implementation process.

The intern will contribute to maintaining a positive work environment consistent with the policies and procedures of the Royal Canadian Yacht Club.


Key Responsibilities:


General HR Duties:

  • Respond to correspondence and phone inquiries on a daily basis, ensuring timely and professional communication.
  • Maintain accurate and uptodate employee files, promptly updating any changes as necessary.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly Human Resources reports to ensure accurate tracking and analysis of key HR metrics.
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of Employee Appreciation Programs/Events to foster a positive work culture.
  • Perform administrative tasks and support other HRrelated activities as directed by the Human Resources Manager.

Recruitment:

  • Collaborate with department managers to create or update job postings, ensuring alignment with organizational needs and requirements.
  • Draft employment offer letters and assemble new hire employee packages, excluding Management level positions.
  • Cultivate relationships with universities and colleges to explore alternative recruiting methods and attract top talent.
  • Assist in the presentation of New Hire Orientation, Policies and Procedures, and Employee Handbook updates.

Safety:

  • Facilitate relevant educational and training opportunities for employees to promote a culture of safety and compliance.
  • Receive and report on all employee incidents, including the submission of WSIB Form 7 when necessary.
  • Attend Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) meetings and provide support as needed.
  • Follow up on monthly safety inspections to identify and address potential hazards proactively.

Qualifications and Skills:


  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Human Resources Management or related field.
  • Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Prior experience in HR or related roles is an asset but not required.
