Position Summary:


The Mental Health Employment Support Consultant will work collaboratively with employment agencies within the Muskoka region through the delivery of mental health consultation, group facilitation and informational sessions related to vocational supports and services to help complex clients with mental health concerns find and maintain competitive employment.

Consultative supports will focus on symptom management, mental health interventions and distress tolerance/coping strategies. Informational sessions may include general information about mental illness, stigma, harm reduction and mental wellness management.

Staff will also provide assertive outreach to connect clients who require support with effective referrals and facilitated access to community based mental health supports.

Staff must possess the strong professional skills and abilities to build and maintain solid working relationships with relevant community partners.

Staff must possess the ability to efficiently and accurately collect and enter statistical and financial reporting to program funders.

Key Responsibilities

1. Consultation/Navigation on Complex Clients

  • Recommend/consult on treatment planning as a result of case reviews, assessments functional capacity evaluations, consideration of clients' physical tolerances, impact of mental health on employability and activities of daily living.
  • Provide treatment recommendations and support the implementation of mental health interventions that will assist in client's successful attainment of competitive employment.
  • Facilitate regular client case reviews for complex clients with employment service providers.
  • Promote positive and supportive attitudes toward people who have experienced mental health problems.
  • Decrease mental health stigma and provide education regarding psychological health and safety in the workplace.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team approach, using best practice and measurable outcomes

2. Informational Sessions/Group Facilitation

  • Deliver sessions to employment service providers who have various levels of understanding, mental health background and awareness.
  • Support and participate in systemic advocacy, health promotion, education, and resource development.
  • Facilitate the development and delivery of group programming as required.
  • Represent and promote Canadian Mental Health Association Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge (C.M.H.A. H.K.P.R.) at employment network events, providing information on mental illness and local resources to support mental wellness through C.M.H.A. H.K.P.R.

3. Vocational Support to Clients

  • Support clients with mental health system navigation and service coordination as required.
  • Provide shortterm onsite job coaching for complex clients as required.
  • Advocate and negotiate on behalf of clients, when necessary.
  • Facilitate referrals to identified community resources.
  • Provide clients with crisis intervention supports when necessary.

4. Documentation

  • Document and maintain electronic and paper client records (intake and assessment forms, progress notes, correspondences, database files, etc.).
  • Complete administrative tasks including: timesheets, expense reports, vacation requests.
  • Complete other required documents in program and agency policies and procedures and standards.
  • Report and maintain programrelated statistical data.
  • Enter employment support details into the CRMS or other Ministry or SSM directed databases on a regular basis.

5. Other Activities

  • Develop and maintain effective working partnerships with Employment Support Network staff and community partners.
  • Liaise with Community Employment Resource Partnerships, Employment. Service Provider Meeting Group, Employment Networking Group, the local Ontario Disability Support Program, and Ontario Works offices and various other community partners.
  • Participate in community outreach activities through the development of collaborative partnerships, on interagency committees and through presentations, education and visits to community agencies and services as appropriate.
  • Participate in and accurately report back on Regional Employment Network tables.

6. Performance Management and Professional Development

  • Participate cooperatively in the agency performance management process/system.
  • Stay current on relevant legislation and best practices, current research, policies and procedures.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and mandatory training.
  • Actively engage and participate in the supervisory process
