AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:


Reporting to the Manager, Environment Planning, this role is responsible to provide project management expertise related to major policy planning studies to support the City's environmental protection, resources management and sustainability policies, programs and actions for both natural and built systems.

Also, provide assistance in the work direction of coop students and volunteers.

  • Support the preparation of special studies and reports on a wide range of sustainability and natural heritage matters and other policy planning issues.
  • Coordinate the monitoring and reporting of the Brampton Grow Green Environmental Master Plan (EMP), and Natural Heritage and Environmental Management Strategy (NHEMS).
  • Liaise with City and Regional departments, other levels of government and outside agencies, including area conservation authorities involved in environmental planning.
  • Liaise with, and provide professional planning advice to other City Departments, the public, developers and City Council with respect to environmental policies and procedures, including natural heritage and sustainability issues.
  • Support the preparation of sustainability and natural heritage policies and objectives for incorporation into the Official Plan, Secondary Plans and Official Plan Amendments.
  • Identifies problems and issues, and supports the development of procedures to address them.
  • Develop and maintain natural heritage data bases, mapping and communication materials related to land use planning, including natural areas inventory, natural feature restoration and enhancement and natural feature remediation.
  • Ensure compliance of environmental recommendations, decisions and actions within the framework of Provincial planning legislation, Regional and City Plans, regulatory approvals and related documents.
  • Conduct field investigations of development sites and municipal natural heritage and open space systems to determine limits of natural heritage features and areas.
  • Assist with the design and posting of information on the City's internal portal and external website on behalf of the section.
  • Perform additional similar and related duties as assigned.

SELECTION CRITERIA:


  • High School (Grade 12) plus an additional program of three (3) to four (4) years in Planning, Urban Planning, Environmental Studies, Environmental Sciences or
  • Over two (2) years, up to and including four (4) years of planning experience with an environmental focus.
  • Valid nonprobationary Ontario class G driver's licence.
  • Knowledge of provincial and municipal environmental and planning policy and legislation.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer service, including negotiation and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated public relations skills and able to effectively deal with third party agencies.
