Job Summary
Locations:
One Prevention Coordinator will work out of Fort McMurray First Nation 468 and the other Coordinator will work out of Chipewyan Prairie Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation.
On occassion, this role is required to report to the Main office in Fort McMurray.
The ATC Child and Family Services, Community Prevention Coordinator is responsible for leading the design and implementation of programming that promotes language, cultural development, and family preservation.
The goals are to develop programming that assists children, youth, and families to live within their cultural traditions which results in increased strength and resiliency.
This role will develop effective strategies to meet the emotional, psychological, physical, and social support needs of the First Nation's communities.
Vison of prevention programming is to decrease the number of children and families requiring child family services intervention. The CPC will be primarily situated within a designated community and working in collaboration with other communities.Prevention programs will promote a foundation of trust and respect to engage families and inspire, empower, support, coach, and mentor families to ensure safety.
Responsibilities
- Provides leadership in developing and delivering services that promote inclusion, participation, creativity, and empowerment to build a vibrant First Nations community where safety and wellbeing are supported
- Applies the principles of the Signs of Safety Framework in practice
- Develops, implements, and evaluates workshops, camps, and group programming that incorporate an understanding of the community's rich history and knowledge through transferring knowledge in landbased activities, language development, and community programming
- Works directly with families in the community to build individual and group leadership, coalition, and collaboration
- Creates programming designed to promote Cree and Dene cultures, traditions, language, and values
- Provides effective crisis prevention, intervention, and counseling using harm reduction principles to respond to the crisis in ways that support individual and community wellbeing and uses health care systems appropriately
- Models effective community engagement, conflict resolution, facilitation, and crisis intervention skills in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team context
Qualifications
- Preferred Bachelor/Diploma of Social Work or related field, with 23 years of related experience. Equivalences will be considered based on related Diploma/Degree in social services and/or health field.
- Experience and Knowledge of Signs of Safety practices.
- Knowledge of First Nations services and community resources.
- Knowledge of a Cree or Dene language or culture an asset.
- Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Intervention Record Check.
- Valid drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle.
