The Opportunity (Hybrid, Toronto, ON)
is looking for a Controller to join our rapidly growing team. Reporting to our Co-Founder, Kazi Ahmed, you will play an impactful role in building out our Accounting function. Your Impact

  • Own the reporting of the Company's financial results to internal and external stakeholders on a monthly basis including the management of daytoday accounting operations and timely periodend closes.
  • Fullcycle monthend accounting including review of journal entries, bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, P&Ls and reporting.
  • Preparation of complex monthly balance sheet schedules such as common shares, stock options, and intangible assets.
  • Review the work of the bookkeepers and accountants to ensure monthly close is accurate.
  • Understanding and performing analytical review over the monthly changes in the balance sheet and P&L.
  • Own adhoc and special projects involving existing and potential future acquisitions, as well as system conversion from QBO to Netsuite and consolidations.
  • Assist and lead process improvement initiatives as appropriate, such as consolidating trial balances, automating monthend processes, etc.
  • Own the annual external audit by leading the preparation of yearend audit working papers and liaising with the auditors to undergo a firsttime US GAAP audit, as well as liaising with the tax preparation firm as appropriate.
  • Work closely with other team members such as the M&A department on forecasts and projections including financial modeling, and purchase price allocations arising from acquisitions.
  • Participate in special projects/adhoc reporting as required.

Your Qualifications

  • CPA/CA with 5+ years' postdesignation experience working for a Big 4 or largesized accounting firm, technology and SaaS experience considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of US GAAP is required.
  • Experience with foreign based subsidiaries and consolidations preferred.
  • Proficiency with cloudbased accounting systems such as NetSuite and QBO.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proven problem solver with excellent analytical skills including advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and work under pressure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
