Position Summary

Under the general direction and leadership of the Manager, Payroll, the Payroll Team Lead will have oversight of all aspects of payroll operations and will establish, oversee and ensure that payroll processes and procedures comply with government legislation, College policies and collective agreements.

The position leads the payroll team in the computation of pay, ensuring the accuracy of employee data, payroll processing, taxes and other withholdings and deductions, and will also manage the payroll year-end close process and the annual generation of T4 and T4A statements.

The Payroll Team Lead will also be responsible for evaluating and recommending changes to payroll systems and will lead the implementation of new and/or improved system processes.

Coordination and preparation of audit deliverables and responding to auditor queries will also be a key aspect of the role.


Responsibilities

  • Oversees all aspects associated with the biweekly payrolls at Centennial College
  • Designs and implement yearend processing methodologies including developing reports and balancing procedures to verify the accuracy of T4's and T4A's produced
  • Reviews all payroll general ledger account reconciliations and acts as main contact for the Finance department for the resolution of discrepancies
  • Provides advice on College's payrollrelated policies, processes, procedures and controls
  • Trains and supervises payroll administrators
  • Acts as a primary contact during the audit process by coordinating the internal preparation of audit deliverables and liaising with external auditors
  • Acts as a backup to the Manager of Payroll
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications/Experience

  • Three (3) year diploma in Accounting, administration or equivalent
  • Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) designation, in good standing, is required
  • Five (5) years of experience with payroll yearend processing, reconciliation, and T4/T4A balancing and production, preferably in a large, unionized workplace
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with mínimal supervision utilizing strong research, investigative, analytical and problemsolving skills.
  • Able to multitask and work well under pressure to meet deadlines with constant interruptions.
  • Detail oriented with a strong aptitude for working with numbers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong mentoring and coaching skills
