Sunnybrook Research Institute (fully affiliated with the University of Toronto) has an opening for a temporary full-time, Research Technician in the laboratory of Dr.

Hon Leong and YEX Inc. This position will be in a company setting and has potential for growth. This position is available for 1 year contract with possibility for renewal.


Duties:


  • In charge of media production and general lab organization.
  • Help with daily tasks to ensure smooth operations.
  • The production requires some light to medium lifting.
  • Organization requires inventory of lab reagents and label lab supplies appropriately.
  • Cleaning and maintenance of media production equipment, sanitization, and other lab duties.
  • Review and archive equipment usage, verification, and monitoring records.
  • Conduct sampling, testing, and evaluation of material for microbial quality.
  • Perform cell culture and bacterial streaking on the samples under microbial testing.
  • Perform other lab support assignments as applicable.
  • Follow biosafety & biosecurity requirements and standard operating procedures as applicable.

Skills and Qualifications:


  • B.Sc. degree or college diploma in biology or equivalent discipline.
  • Assets include:
  • Experience within a laboratory setting.
  • Micropipette usage (single/multi/repeater)
  • Demonstrated basic understanding of protein biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology.
  • Technical competency in one or more of the following:
  • Mammalian Cell Culture and Aseptic technique
- pH, Appearance, Osmolality, Spectrophotometry, and others.

  • Ability to work in a fastpaced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to lift, up to 10 kg on a regular basis.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills and computer literacy (Microsoft 365, teams).

Schedule:


  • Day shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • No weekends
