- Utilize the total communication approach to facilitate interaction between students with deafblindness, other students, and staff
- Help deafblind students engage in the visual/oral world around them
- Support educational programs by adjusting classroom materials to meet students' specialized needs
- Collaborate with teachers to reinforce educational programs
- Implement educational support programs in coordination with school-based personnel and other professionals
- Enhance students' social skills, self-esteem, and independence through established techniques
- Prepare reports and classroom materials such as booklets and flashcards
- Transcribe learning materials into Braille, e-text, or enlarged print as needed
- Utilize assistive technology accordingly
- Help students interpret the environment and foster effective communication
- Secondary school graduate or equivalent
- Completion of a two-year post-secondary Intervenor Program at a recognized college
- One year intervenor experience is advantageous
- ASL proficiency, including the ability to adapt to different communication levels
- Knowledge of Braille
- Understanding of computers and assistive technology for students who are blind or visually impaired
- Effective team player with school personnel, parents/guardians, students, and resources
