Working for the Department
As a unit of DoS, WISEST exists to empower women and encourage diversity in science, engineering and technology.

An important part of this mandate is reaching into the community to develop and deliver relevant programs and content for populations underrepresented in STEM fields, including female, gender-diverse, rural and racialized students.

Reporting to the Team Lead, WISEST, the WISEST Outreach Coordinator will focus on ongoing outreach activities designed to engage equity-deserving groups.

This will include assessing community needs, identifying and prioritizing outreach initiatives, building community collaborations, and planning and executing activities, events, and collaborations.

The main activities of the Outreach Coordinator can be grouped into the following 4 categories: teacher resourcing, community building (which includes internal and external collaborations), engaging students from rural and Indigenous communities, and branding/external communications.

In an effort to have WISEST outreach staff reflect the intersectional identities of the students they will be engaging with and to align with the development of recent outreach initiatives, we hope to have this role filled by someone with lived experience that reflects that of the students they will be engaging with primarily of Indigenous heritage or a racialized individual.
