The Division

The School
**Swan Hills School is a K-12 school located 200 km northwest of Edmonton which serves approximately 200 students with a staff dedicated to maintain and build a safe, consistent and successful environment for all students.


The Community
***Swan Hills is the highest settlement east of the Rocky Mountains. The community is surrounded by virgin boreal and sub alpine forest and is rich in rare flora and fauna not found anywhere else in the province. This community is a wonderful place for the outdoor enthusiast or anyone enjoying outdoor recreational activities such as snowmobiling, motocross, golfing, curling, hockey and plenty more.

  • Permanent Alberta Teacher Certification
  • Willingness to work collaboratively as a member of a professional learning community
  • The ability to work effectively with diverse students and parent groups
  • Strong evidence of instructional leadership
  • Previous Principal and/or Associate principal experience
  • Individuals must have a Master of Education degree or a plan to pursue their Master of Education degree
  • Meets the Alberta Leadership Quality Standard
  • Have a student first focus and a belief that all children can learn and succeed
  • Have a proven effective teaching and/or lead teacher experience
  • Establish a safe and caring environment
  • Communicate a clear and focused mission that is shared and inspiring
  • Establish a climate of high expectations for success
  • Be able to establish an inclusive educational environment
  • Lead effective schoolbased practices to facilitate continuous improvement in literacy and numeracy
  • Commit to frequent monitoring of student and staff progress
  • Be comfortable with timetabling and scheduling
  • Be able to maintain and create positive homeschool relations
  • Be a "team player" and a contributing member of the Superintendent's educational team
  • Be able to motivate and inspire others
  • Promote and use technology as a teaching tool
  • Contribute to the school and community
  • Value and understand the importance of the Board's Education Plan, School Education Plan, Professional Learning Communities, and Assessment for and of Learning.

There are inherent risks in the work employees do throughout Pembina Hills School Division (PHSD). All staff are to be prepared to satisfactorily manage the inherent risks encountered in their work.
