The Vancouver Board of Education welcomes applicants for the position of:Communications Assistant (Co-Op Student Intern)
Hourly Wage:
$24.08/hour (7 hours/day) + 4% in lieu of vacation
Situated on the shared traditional territories of the x?m?θk??y??m (Musqueam), S?wx_wú7mesh (Squamish), and s?lilw?ta? (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations, the Vancouver School Board (VSB) is an exciting, progressive and dynamic school district providing a rich array of educational opportunities for more than 48,500 learners from kindergarten to adult.
We are looking for a dynamic communications student intern, with a driven work ethic who can fit into a collaborative, can-do and results-oriented work culture.
As part of the Communications Team, you will provide communications support to further elevate the profile and culture of the Vancouver School District.
You are a compelling storyteller and writer who can create communication pieces for various audiences and mediums. In this role, you will support communication strategies across the organization. You are a detail-oriented, creative and organized individual, and collaborate well within a team setting.This position offers exposure to all aspects of corporate communications, from communications planning and event planning, media relations and community engagement.
Find opportunities to promote the District's brand through good news stories and adapts material to online format, tone, voice and style.
Works collaboratively with the Communications Team and supports them in planning District's projects and events.
Education/Work Experience
Studying communications, public relations or related discipline in post-secondary institution.
Work experience in an education, government or non-profit setting is an asset.
Skills:
Superior writing, editing and proofreading skills; strong spoken communication skills.
Ability to write in a variety of styles for a range of audiences and to translate complicated concepts into plain language.
Strong photo and video editing as well as graphic design is an asset.
Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (g. InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop).
Ability to meet deadlines, handle multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced environment.
A team player who collaborates and has strong people skills.
Ability to maintain flexibility and a positive attitude while performing in a fast-paced environment.
This role will require you to travel to schools and meet students and staff behind the Vancouver School District. A class 5 driver's license is an asset. You may also need to attend community events outside of regular working hours.
This position is a four-month Co-Op student position with a possibility for extension.
