Under the daily supervision of the Rural Community Justice Coordinator and the general direction of the Director of Justice, the Reintegration Justice Worker is responsible for the advocacy and court navigation for youth twelve to eighteen that are referred to the STC Justice Extrajudicial Sanctions Alternative Measures and/or Community Reintegration programs.


The "Community Youth Reintegration Program" will expand current justice services to provide youth reintegration programming in the communities under the Saskatoon Tribal Council.

The goal of the program is to provide intensive mentorship for high-risk youth and will include culturally responsive programming unique to the communities' needs with the use of knowledge keeper and elders, community members, community resources and agencies, family and peers, to develop unique case plans.

It will provide holistic, wrap-around services in the community.

The main objectives of the program will be to reintegrate youth into their home communities, connect youth with appropriate resources and create supportive connections in the community using the inter-agency approach, hereinafter referred to as the "project.

Responsibilities

  • Required travel to communities;
  • In partnership within the community's programs and services, case manage activities and functions of an assigned caseload of youth;
  • Provide mentorship, guidance and support to assigned youth and serve as a positive role model in the community for all;
  • Engage youth, their family, and other community members in restoring harmony and promote healing in a culturally sensitive manner;
  • Provide monthly reports as required;
  • Participate in programming, training and other Saskatoon Tribal Council community events as assigned;
  • Develop community and kinship resources to assist youth in completing their reintegration mentorship plans;
  • Facilitate workshops and programs as identified;
  • Use a holistic restorative approach in the delivery of wraparound services to youth and/or adults and their family members;
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all professionals including STC and community staff involved in the case plan;
  • Assist in development of yearly work plans and activity reports;
  • Operate in accordance to the Youth Criminal Justice Act;
  • Complete accurate records of referrals, activities, outcomes and statistical information in the reporting format as required;
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of information regarding files;
  • Operate under the STC Inc Policies Manual;
  • Perform other related duties as defined and assigned

Education and Experience

  • Knowledge of current challenges youth must contend with;
  • Knowledge of the Youth Criminal Justice Act and provincial youth court process;
  • Knowledge of community resources;
  • Ability to advocate for youth and their families;
  • Experience working with youth and their families;
  • Effective presentation and/or public speaking skills;
  • Ability to prepare written reports;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Must possess a valid Saskatchewan driver's license, a reliable vehicle and meet STC's insurance requirements;
  • Experience working within a governance structure in a community development capacity with First Nations; familiarity with First Nations culture, history is considered an asset.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Post secondary education in a human service related field. Combination of skills, education and life learning experiences may be considered.
  • Minimum of on year experience in a related field.
  • The following training will be considered assets: Victim-Offender Mediation, Community Justice Mediation, Suicide Intervention, First Aid, Critical Incident Debriefing, and Life Skills;
