Duties
:
Reporting to the Director, Counselling and Accessibility Services, the incumbent is responsible for providing personal counselling and psychotherapy services to College students with a focus on mental health and addiction issues, support for survivors of gender based and sexual violence, and developing psychoeducational programming and materials from an anti-oppressive, trauma-informed perspective.
Working from a client-centred and trauma-informed framework, the Personal Counsellor will also support students with appropriate referrals to College and community partners.
Qualifications**- Master's degree in Social Work, Counselling Psychology or a related discipline, including a supervised clinical internship- Professional registration required to practice psychotherapy in the province of Ontario with the College of Registered Psychotherapists (CRPO), or the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW)
- Minimum 5 years' recent and relevant experience
- An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered; preference will be given to applicants meeting the education requirements
- Previous experience working in the field of sexual and genderbased violence; experience providing direct support to survivors of genderbased violence is an asset
- Specific experience and professional training in working with clients who have experienced trauma
- Experience working with racialized, marginalized, and/or underserved communities
- Demonstrated ability to support students in crisis, including assessment of risk, and making appropriate referrals is required
- Experience with providing case management is also an asset
- Knowledge of harm reduction models, education and prevention strategies, for individuals living with addictions and substance use problems is an asset
- Excellent verbal and written communication and strong interpersonal skills required
- Strong commitment and demonstrated ability to working collaboratively as part of a team, and in accordance with all legal and ethical requirements

Salary:
Determination of starting salaries is based on relevant teaching/occupational experience and relevant formal qualifications, supported with original transcripts from granting institutions.
The salary scale is $67,221 to $116,532 along with a comprehensive benefit package.
Partial load or full-time academic staff presently employed with the College will be given first consideration in accordance with the Academic Collective Agreement.
