The Organization:

The Métis Nation is a distinct Indigenous people recognized under Section 35 of the Canadian Constitution Act, 1982. The Métis National Council (MNC) and its Governing Members advocate for the Métis Nation.

The primary mandate of the MNC is to work with federal and other key stakeholders to resolve systemic issues and concerns of the Métis Nation such as the fiscal relationship with the federal government; economic development; health; childcare and family services; education; environment, Métis veterans, and language promotion and protection.

The MNC represents the Métis Nation both domestically and abroad and seeks to reinforce the Métis Nation's right to self-government in Canada.


The Position:


Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Administration, the Special Projects Coordinator will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive administrative support, with a specific focus on assisting committees within the organization.

This role requires exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.


Key Responsibilities:

∞ Schedule and organize committee meetings, ensuring all logístical aspects are well managed. This could include travel, accommodation, catering, and A/V requirements.

∞ Prepare and distribute meeting agendas, materials, and minutes.

∞ Serve as the primary point of contact for committee members, addressing inquiries and providing necessary information.

∞ Assist in the preparation of reports, presentations, and other documentation as required.

∞ Manage the filing system to ensure easy access to committee-related materials.

∞ Draft and proofread correspondence, ensuring accuracy and adherence to organizational standards.

∞ Support managing the calendar and meeting requests for Senior Staff.

∞ Inputs and updates information in databases and spreadsheets.

∞ Works closely with other administrative staff and supports other colleagues as needed.

∞ Works with sensitive information with discretion to maintain confidentiality and security and ensure compliance with privacy policies and regulations.


Qualifications:

∞ Minimum of three (3) year's experience working as an Administrative Assistant

∞ Experience or understanding of working with the Métis Nation or other Indigenous Peoples Knowledge of the Métis Nation's historical, political and legal issues

∞ Knowledge and understanding of the Canadian Federal political system and how government works.

∞ Understanding of project management principles and a proven record of accomplishment of developing and delivering projects within their scope and timelines

∞ Excellent writing skills with an ability to produce clear, concise and error-free documents, reports, presentations and correspondence for printed and digital media

∞ Experience organizing and managing the logistics for national and international travel as well as managing the logistics for large meetings in a variety of locations

∞ Proficient in Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint and other software as well as a familiarity with primary social media


Knowledge and Skills:

∞ Understanding of Métis culture, history, and the unique challenges faced by Métis communities.

∞ Knowledge of the Métis Nation's historical, political and legal issues

∞ High level of tact, diplomacy, discretion

∞ Excellent judgement and creativity

∞ Organizational, multi-tasking and time-management skills

∞ Resilience and adaptability


Additional Requirements:

∞ Complete a clean Criminal Record Check with the Vulnerable Sector.

∞ Willingness to travel domestically or internationally, at times with short notice.


Salary:
$55,000.00-$62,500.00 per year
