Dillon's
Communities & Environment group is looking for an
Interim
Construction Observer to join our multidisciplinary team of professionals.

You will have the opportunity to work on a new and exciting project while providing our client with a fully integrated and superior customer experience.

This part-time position is available for a project located in
Kemptown, Nova Scotia, just outside of our Halifax office
.

It is anticipated that 20 hours of on-site effort per week for a duration of approximately 16 weeks will be required during the summer/fall of 2024.


Responsibilities:


What your day may look like


This position is to observe and document that the interests of the client are being considered and that the project design is being constructed in accordance with the engineering drawings and specifications during the execution of the construction contract.


Project work

  • Onsite construction observation for a solid waste management infrastructure project (landfill cell closure), documenting that the project meets the requirements of the contract drawings and technical specifications
  • Liaise with the Contractor and Dillon's Project Manager daily (and other stakeholders as required) with respect to construction progress
  • Coordinate, monitor, and witness required testing activities to document that the Contractor's material testing is being carried out at the prescribed frequency and that the results are acceptable
  • Complete field measurements and manage daily records of site conditions, site activities, quantities and work progress through site photographs and daily site reports
  • Support contract administration services as required, including the preparation of site instructions (Sis), contemplated change notices (CCNs), change orders (COs), and other contract documentation and record keeping, review and track the project schedule and progress, attend health and safety meetings and project progress meetings
  • Review Contractor submitted progress claims and assist in the preparation of project Payment Certificates and quantity takeoffs

Qualifications:

What you will need to succeed

  • Able to keep detailed and organized notes and photographs related to daily site activities, equipment and construction progress
  • Able to read and understand detailed civil engineering drawings and specifications
  • Exceptional communication (verbal and written) skills and attention to detail are essential
  • A degree in Civil Engineering or a diploma in Civil Engineering Technology would be considered an asset
