***: The Family Peer Support Worker is part of a dynamic team which is dedicated to understanding the strengths and needs of staff, service-users and assisting all with timely, effective advice, support and goal-setting that aligns with equity, diversity and inclusion. As well as the support of building and maintaining family support networks for children and youth who are separated or at risk of being disconnected from their home, traditional communities and culture. The Family Peer Support Worker will work with families to develop a dignifying and purposeful relationship with parents. The Family Peer Support worker will have lived child welfare experiences that will allow them to serve as system role models that promote authentic engagement with families while they are involved with FCSRC.


GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:


The Family Peer Support worker will:

  • Develop and maintain meaningful relationships with the parents/caregivers and view them as unique individuals.
  • Assist parents with accessing services and overcoming barriers, such as housing, social service or health benefits, child care, education, and employment.
  • Offer parents assistance navigating the child welfare system especially around issues of Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity

DUTIES PERFORMED BY A FAMILY PEER SUPPORT WORKER ON A REGULAR BASIS:

  • Arrange and accompany or transport parents.
  • Visit families in their home or community to provide support using narrative approaches.
  • Attend collaborative and committee meetings, including court, network and decisionmaking meetings, as well as case meetings with the family to offer support and assist with understanding the requests/expectations of child welfare and other systems involved.
  • Advocate and speak on the child, parent, caregiver and community's behalf about the impact of being involved with FCSRC and other community supports.
  • Follow supervisory and Agency direction to facilitate the sharing of client information
  • Responsible for the completion of necessary documents as outlined by the supervisor
  • Participate in team meetings scheduled.
  • Complete debriefing to assist in the evaluation of participants' success and evaluate program effectiveness
  • Completion of other related tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:


  • Knowledge, experience, and understanding of the culture, history and current oppressions experienced by marginalized groups.
  • Understanding of the CYFSA, Signs of Safety, Anti-Oppressive Practice and Strength-Based approach
  • Demonstrate the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Highly effective listening, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills including the ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with internal and external resources
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to balance multiple tasks and assignments.
  • Demonstrate ability to show initiative and leadership.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • Lived experience child welfare engagement is required.
  • Knowledgeable about computerbased technologies relevant to report writing, the collection and maintenance of service user information, data and other common office tasks and ability to learn new information systems.
  • Preference shall be given to persons of an equity seeking group.
  • French Language skills considered an asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Normal office working condition apply
  • Ability to travel and work out of different offices within Renfrew County

SALARY:
$17 an hour
