About Us:


The Department of Surgery is a diverse city-wide clinical academic department comprised of eight divisions: Cardiac Surgery, General Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, and Urology.

The department has over 100 surgeons and scientists, one basic science graduate degree program, and seven Royal College academic training programs enrolling over 160 trainees


Responsibilities:


The Research & Graduate Education Coordinator will participate in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating both new and ongoing programs and services to support teaching excellence and research innovation in the Department of Surgery's Graduate Programs.

The role will provide a resource to faculty and instructors, residents and clinical fellows at the departmental level in the area of needs assessment, program design, curriculum development and evaluation to ensure that departmental initiatives meet the identified learning and research needs of faculty, instructors, and learners.

The role will manage the oversight of innovation projects that support the department's research initiative, assisting with project management and support, and coordinating research support staff as needed.

The Education, Research & Innovation Coordinator will also support workflow of support staff in the Education and Research & Innovation support teams.


Qualifications:


  • Education:
  • Master's Degree with a Major in Education, Adult Education or research related discipline
  • Experience:
  • 5 years' experience in program evaluation, needs analysis and project management in a clinical academic research environment
  • Experience developing, implementing, and coordinating instructional development programs and processes
  • Experience with data analytics and extraction, metaanalysis and performing literature searches
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • In-depth knowledge of instructional design methods to deliver instructional programs and courses and of adult learning principles
  • Knowledge of needs assessment methods, eLearning principles, strategies and tools
  • Familiarity with educational technologies (such as learning analytics, open and online education), and outcomebased curriculum design
  • Familiarity with the clinical research environment
  • Ability to collaborate across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives, improve outcomes and support work beyond one's own unit
  • Oral and written communication skills with an emphasis on proposal development, completing analytics and reports and delivering presentations
  • Ability to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards
  • Ability to understand customer needs and expectations and provide excellent customer service to directly and indirectly satisfy expectations
  • A desire to grow and advance skills, which is demonstrated by attending conferences, workshops and other professional developmental opportunities to enhance performance
  • Professional manner, tact, diplomacy and discretion in dealing with associates and colleagues including senior management
  • Computer skills with the ability to learn and use software programs with intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Project management skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously from conception to completion within tightly prescribed timelines
  • Proven ability and natural inclination to develop relationships by interacting with people in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
