About You
As an Assistant Store Manager (ASM) at Java Blend, you should be passionate about coffee.

You will learn all about our coffee processes, from roasting practices and quality control to extracting the best espresso shot and creating the perfect cup.

Training will be provided on various barista techniques, safety measures, and store systems.


We believe that education of the whole coffee production process helps us appreciate the role each person plays in a single cup of coffee, from farmers to customers, and our JB team that exists in between.

Therefore, it is essential for the ASM to be willing to learn about this process.

We will walk you through every roast profile, the differences between each origin and process, our roasting schedules, packaging and shipping, café operations, and the ongoing relationships we have with our incredible coffee community.


By roasting and brewing each profile thoughtfully, we create delicious, consistent coffee experiences that are enjoyed by our customers across Atlantic Canada.


About the Position

The Assistant Store Manager increases sales and profits by being responsible for the oversight of the day-to-day functions of the café, and the customer and staff experience.

This includes upholding company standards throughout all customer and staff areas of the store (inside and outside), remaining aware of customer and staff needs, and monitoring and ensuring fast, accurate and friendly service at the cash registers, on the café floor and at point of handoff.


The ASM's supervision takes the form of side-by-side involvement in the work to observe, assess and coach performance, as well as to set the pace of work.

They link their every action to productivity and business results, and are guided by Java Blend's vision and core values.


Responsibilities:

Store Performance

  • Ensure store performance meets targets in sales, profit, production, and productivity based on annual performance expectations for the store.
  • Continually monitor and set the pace of work.
  • Have awareness of company objectives and an understanding of local market potential.
  • Has the ability to analyze key metrics and information, tie findings to observations and take appropriate action.
  • Inspect the sales floor for shopability and ensure productivity of staff & merchandise.
Leadership and Development Lead

  • Direct and supervise the work of the entire staff.
  • Oversee Shift Supervisors in proactively planning staffing needs, recruiting, selecting and training staff at all levels.
  • Regularly observe, assess, interact, coach and counsel the team.
  • Regular interaction, training, coaching and counselling of staff.
  • Identify and develop high potential staff for all management positions through onthejob, guided work.
  • Maintain a respectful valuesdriven workplace.
  • Use open communication tools and convert staff input into meaningful action.
  • Address complaints and resolve issues consistent with our values, policies and procedures.
  • Provide recognition and candid feedback.
  • Receive and relay business information, initiatives, expectations, priorities, etc.
Customer Service

  • Deliver a positive customer experience by setting the example for, as well as training and coaching customer service expectations, working with all members of management and staff to ensure execution.
  • Receive and respond to customer questions, requests and complaints.
  • Ensure a quick, accurate and positive experience for customers.
  • Actively engage with the customer by seeking first hand feedback to make improvements to all aspects of the café experience.
  • Guide the staff in implementing the setup of sales and marketing promotions & programs.
Staff Engagement

  • Maintain a respectful, valuesdriven workplace.
  • Use open communication tools, and convert staff input into meaningful action.
  • Resolve staff issues in a manner consistent with Java Blend 's values, policies and procedures.
  • Capable of performing all duties required of staff.
  • Provide recognition and candid feedback about performance and behaviours.
Loss Prevention & Safety

  • Protect company assets and information by ensuring their safe handling, security and integrity.
  • Proactively promote loss prevention awareness by upholding procedures and ensuring policies are in place.
  • Maintain a safe work environment through education, consistent follow up, ensuring policies and procedures are in place, and supporting the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC).
Inventory Management

  • Making sure the café is equipped with everything the store needs at all times.
  • That includes weekly food orders and adjustments.
  • Ordering serving supplies cups, lids, sleeves etc.
Scheduling

  • Making sure schedules are out in a timely manner.
  • ASM will be the first point of contact for employees.
  • ASM ensures that scheduling meets all requirements for providing excellent customer service, safe staffing levels, and maintaining a profitable location.
