How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:

Under the direction of Legal Counsel, the Law Clerk, Risk Management is responsible for the day-to-day co-ordination and administration of legal services related to real estate transactions, contracts and agreements, litigation and administrative proceedings, including: coordinating all documents for land acquisition and disposition; preparing leases, easements, restrictive covenants, encroachment agreements and other documents to be registered on title; preparing contracts and agreements related to the procurement of goods and services; and preparing and filing documents in proceedings before courts and administrative tribunals.


Major Responsibilities:


  • Review and processing of real estate transactions and agreements, including preparing and registering closing documents, including preparation of acknowledgement and direction
  • Drafting easement agreements, encroachment agreements and restrictive covenants, and maintaining precedent file for such documents
  • Conducting title searches and offtitle searches, registering site plan agreements, easements and restrictions on title
  • Preparing leases for TRCA properties, including residential rental properties and conservation lands managed by third parties
  • Conducting searches in respect of Construction Act liens
  • Managing Teraview document registration account and subscription
  • Preparing documents including contracts, agreements, leases, and related correspondence
  • Maintaining and updating document templates within the procurement and agreement database
  • Providing support to client departments in respect of preparation and execution of contracts and other agreements
  • Coordinating document assembly related to litigation and property claims, and preparing Affidavits of Documents for court proceedings
  • Preparing Minutes of Settlement and releases
  • Preparing and filing documents related to expropriations proceedings
  • Maintaining court and LPAT deadline schedule and reminder system
  • Administering file management system and providing file management support to Legal Counsel
  • Maintaining confidentiality and security of documents protocols
  • Performing other duties as assigned or required in accordance with departmental, divisional and/or corporate objectives

What will you need to succeed:

  • Post-secondary diploma for Law Clerks, or equivalent education and work experience
  • Demonstrated experience in closing real estate transactions, managing Teraview account and subscription, combined with a thorough working knowledge of land development process and procedures
  • Knowledge and experience working with both Registry and Land Title systems
  • 5 years' work experience as a Law Clerk in a private or public sector environment
