    Description

    POWERLINE TECHNICIAN or APPRENTICE

    A great opportunity is available at the General Utilities Department (NOW Inc.) in Cochrane. General Utilities offers services to Northern Ontario Wires Inc. which maintains an infrastructure in Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, and Kapuskasing, delivering electricity to homes, schools, and businesses. Responsibilities include maintaining poles, wires, underground cables, emergency responses, energy tracking, and customer billing.

    Qualifications:

    • Grade 12 diploma.
    • Red Seal Certification as a Powerline Maintainer or registered apprentice.
    • Valid Class "D" Ontario Driver's License with a Class "Z" endorsement.
    • Familiarity with company equipment and safety practices.
    • History of safe work practices and understanding of work protection code.
    • Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset.
    • Ability to perform physical work demands of the role.
    • Operation of aerial devices and tools.
    • Work at heights, climb poles, and in inclement weather.

    Basic Position Outline:

    • Reporting to the Operations Supervisor.
    • Live line work on the distribution system.
    • Installation of poles, transformers, high voltage wire, and cable.
    • Meter reading, installation, service upgrades for residential and commercial.
    • Team environment ensuring high customer service standards.
    • Work compliance with legislation, safety regulations, and company requirements.
    • Streetlight maintenance and installation.
    • Expected residency within a 30-minute response time to NOW facilities.
    • Other assigned duties.
