PHS Community Services Society (PHS) is hiring Casual Supportive Housing Workers for Housekeeping and De-hoarding (Home Support)


Home Support Workers are responsible for providing home support services and cleaning services for those who are: persons with a mental health diagnosis, persons with physical disabilities and/or chronic disease such as HIV/AIDS, persons with a history of criminal activity and/or involvement in the criminal justice system, persons who engage in active alcohol, drug, and/or IV drug use, persons with any combination of the above.


About PHS

Responsibilities for the role include (but are not limited to):

  • Responsible for the cleaning of resident rooms in accordance with initiatives set out by the Project Manager and their own self-directed work.
  • Responsible for room cleanouts and preparation for new resident arrivals.
  • Provides physical, social, emotional, basic life skills to participants including; home support, personal hygiene, and harm reduction initiatives.
  • Fosters a sense of community to provide support to help residents build selfesteem through role modeling and other techniques.
  • Maintains daily shift reports and checklists.
  • Produces a weekly list of jobs and initiatives that have been completed by Home Support to post in the online log.
  • Assists with various tasks associated with transitions of residency: orientation of new tenants, moving, connection with services, assessing needs, and collection of personal information on occasion.
  • Listens and responds to participants concerns, questions and requests in a manner that conveys respect. Responsible for deescalating hostile interactions between tenants. Escalates to higher authorities as necessary.
  • Provides crisis intervention services in the event of overdose to the endangered individual(s).

This will include but not be limited to:
prepping and administering Naloxone, calling emergency services, monitoring for re-occurring overdose.

  • Attends all building inspections with pest control agencies, and ensures that rooms are prepared for scheduled inspections or treatments, including posting appropriate signage for residents.
  • Report emergency events, i.e., death, fire, etc. to the Project Manager immediately.
  • Sanitizes residents' living spaces to reduce the development or spread of illness/infectious disease.
  • Monitors and assists with all residents' pets in the building. Demonstrates an understanding of animal care and resources in the community.
  • Participates in new staff training and orientation as required.

Education and experience required:


  • Minimum of 12 years' work experience with marginalized populations.
  • Relevant courses or training in mental health/addictions support.
  • Must have valid First Aid and CPR "C" certification.

An equal combination of education, training and experience is acceptable.

Wage:
$30.64/hour + 10% pay in lieu of benefits

**Please note, mandatory four-day paid training for this position occurs Tuesday-Friday during the day, starting at 9AM*
