Strong Start to reading is a registered charity that provides volunteer-delivered, community-based reading assistance programs to children in the early grades of elementary school.

In this role, you will work to help inventory and re-stock program kits for our
- _Letters, Sounds and Words_ program, prepare consumable shipments and support other inventory tasks for all our programs.

To be successful in this position, you will be highly organized and detail-oriented, have excellent communications skills and be physically able to package, lift and move materials.

You must also be comfortable with highly repetitive tasks, such as counting, sorting and record keeping. Experience in manufacturing and assembly and/or as a volunteer in the
- _Letters, Sounds and Words_ program is an asset but not required.

This is a seasonal position, full-time limited contract working approximately 30-35 hours per week Monday to Thursday between the hours of 8:30am and 5:00pm and Fridays between the hours of 8:30am and 1:00pm from June 26, 2023 to September 1, 2023.

The work location is at our National Program Deployment Centre in Waterloo. Due to the nature of the work performed, this position does not include remote or hybrid options. You must be able to safely lift and move materials weighing up to 30 lbs.


Remuneration:
$15.50 per hour plus payroll benefits.-Key Responsibilities- The primary duty of any Inventory Assistant is to help manage the inventory. This means processing inventory orders, logging items that have been received and items that have been taken from inventory, and physically moving product within the warehouse.

Duties for the time allowed will be selected from the following:

  • Check and re-stock program kits
  • Assemble new program kits
  • Prepare and move inventory which may include counting large quantities of materials, packing and labelling boxes, moving materials (carts are provided) placing items within their proper place in the inventory room or warehouse
  • Fulfill orders, quality check, and package items for shipment
  • Inspect shipments of new stock as they come in, checking to make sure orders have been filled correctly and look for damage
  • Follow established quality control procedures
  • Record inventory quantities and transactions
  • Contribute to the analysis and continuous improvements of assembly procedures and processes
  • Support small groups of volunteers who count and package materials (e.g. training and monitoring volunteers to ensure they perform the tasks correctly and that proper quality controls are in place)

Qualifications/Skills/Requirements:

  • Manufacturing and assembly experience is an asset
  • Ability to work well independently and with a partner in an efficient and effective manner
  • Good problemsolving skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Good communication skills (oral and written)
  • Selfmotivated learner who takes initiative
  • Ability to safely lift and move materials weighing approximately 30 lbs.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks


Training and Orientation- Training and Orientation will be supported by assigned members of the Operations team.- Training in all areas for which you are responsible, along with dedicated onboarding time to experience these responsibilities, will be provided.
