Position Description:


The Industry Partnership & Commercialization (IP&C) office of The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) champions the development and commercialization of SickKids research.

To achieve this goal, we foster a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, we forge commercial partnerships and we help to build start-up companies.


Reporting to the Operations Manager, Industry Partnerships & Commercialization, the Communications & Events Coordinator will play an integral role in the development and delivery of an effective communications plan and event management for the department that elevates the profile for SickKids.

This includes working closely with the IP&C Operations Manager and Communications & Public Affairs, to ensure that all events and communication efforts align with organizational messaging and integrated campaigns.


IP&C is looking for a seasoned Communications & Events Coordinator with strong communication and collaboration skills, solid organizational skills, and proven event planning experience.

The successful Communications & Events Coordinator is passionate about planning and delivering quality events with the ability to write and prepare clear, concise impactful messaging for diverse audiences both internally and externally.


Here's What You'll Get To Do:

Communications:

  • Develop and implement communications goals and strategies for both the department and individual projects
  • Writing and editing a variety of materials to support communications initiatives, including outreach materials, web stories, website content and social media content
  • Support the development of the department¿s quarterly newsletter by working crossdepartment to generate and edit content
  • Coordinate the maintenance of an ongoing content calendar in support of the department¿s activities and goals
  • Build excellent working relations with internal and external stakeholders

Events Management:

  • Manage seminars and special events such as the Annual SickKids Innovation Showcase for the department
  • Preevent planning, event oversight, postevent reporting and budget management for each event
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to define event objectives, schedules, required resources and measures of success for all events
  • Coordinate all relevant vendor and internal resources onsite to ensure flawless execution of events
  • Collaborate with the senior management team to acquire event sponsorship
  • Prepare and deliver detailed reports to management and team members as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Here's What You'll Need:


  • Undergraduate degree/college certificate in business, marketing, communications, event management; or any equivalent combination of experience and training
  • Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated experience and training in communications, special events planning
  • Background or interest in health research/science is an asset
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills, along with the ability to write compelling content to leverage internally and externally
  • Experience in social media communications, development, execution, and reporting
  • Confident and positive, highenergy and capable of easily interacting with senior management and top researchers
  • High level of professionalism and ability to manage smooth event logistics
  • Solid and effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; the ability to multitask and meet deadlines along with accuracy, attention to detail and flexible to change
  • Advanced computer skills in Office 365, proficiency with MailChimp, Eventbrite and design is an asset
