THE OPPORTUNITY


The Council is seeking a highly skilled safety codes officer specializing in the electrical discipline to become a valued member of our team.

In the role of Safety Codes Auditor, your responsibilities will include evaluating the practices, policies, and procedures of accredited organizations to ensure alignment with accreditation terms, quality management plans, and the Safety Codes Act.

Moreover, you will offer expert guidance on the Electrical

Code, contribute to enhancing the master electrician program, and actively participate in shaping the training for Safety Codes Officers provided by the Council.

JOB DETAILS

  • Conduct audits of accredited organizations by analyzing and interpreting data, generating written working papers and reports, and articulating conclusions derived from assessments.
  • Evaluate and provide recommendations on audit findings, crafting comprehensive audit reports.
  • Assist accredited organizations and representatives with expert advice and recommendations.
  • Offer guidance and expertise to fellow safety codes officers on technical matters.
  • Support the development and delivery of training and certification programs for master electricians and safety codes officers.
  • Deliver workshops for safety codes officers, focusing on roles, responsibilities, and comprehension of safety codes operations and relevant legislations.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of enhancements to existing methods, policies, procedures, and best practices.

THE REQUIREMENTS

  • Electrical Safety Codes Officer Group A is required; Group B is an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience as a safety codes officer in administering the Canadian Electrical Codes; administering the Alberta Electrical Utility Codes is considered an asset.
  • Master Electrician designation considered an asset.
  • Postsecondary education in business, auditing, risk analysis, compliance management, or related field considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the Safety Codes Act, related regulations, quality management plans, and compliance monitoring practices.
  • Demonstrated coaching and mentorship capability.
  • Experience in corporate, municipal, or agency setting is an asset.
  • Experience using office software (e.g., Adobe, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams).

  • Must reside in central Alberta, possess a valid drivers' license, and be willing to travel throughout the province.
