How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:
The Crew Leader will lead a team of 1-2 Field Staff to implement TRCA's wildlife programs, within the GTA.

The wildlife program includes the Canada Goose Management program, where staff will work to humanely manage goose reproduction and relocate adult geese during their moult.

This position will also include the construction and installation of essential wildlife habitat, including nesting/roosting boxes, and colonial waterbird habitat management, as well as beaver habitat mitigation.

Major Responsibilities:

Implements the Canada Goose Management program, including watercraft based nesting searching and management.
Implements wildlife conflict management mitigation, including beaver habitat mitigation.
Implement essential wildlife habitat through the installation of wildlife structures and colonial waterbird habitat management.
Operate equipment required to execute work duties related to the project, including operating and trailering 1418" boats.
Conducts field work and supports the coordination of field work by providing onsite work coordination to the team.
Ensures quality control checks and tests are instigated, with records maintained and accessible.
Conducts site setup, reviews of implementation progress and site cleanups; ensuring adherence to work plans.
Coordinates the operation and maintenance of equipment as required (ranges from small tools and measuring devices to heavy equipment); may also operate machinery/tools as required.
Ensures the required site activities are completed as per work scope.
Participates in and/or leads daily safety meetings including tailgate meetings, hazard identification and emergency planning.
Incumbents may also be assigned other duties.
Assist with the oversight, training, and motivation of junior staff in compliance with the TRCA Health and Safety Policies.

What will you need to succeed:
Education (degree/diploma/certifications)

Completion of college diploma in Resource Management, Ecological Restoration or Management, Environmental or Engineering Science, Landscape Design, Forestry, Construction, or a related field
Valid Ontario Class G driver's license
Valid Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C Certification

Experience

2+ years of experience in implementation tasks in areas of specialization.

Knowledge/Skill/Ability

Knowledge of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, fish and wildlife habitat, common plant identification and ecology.
Experience with boating (1418' boats) and boat trailering
Familiar with basic equipment and power tools.
The ability to demonstrate strong problemsolving skills in a field environment; is able to break down site required activities and delegate and estimate time / resources / budget required to complete tasks.
Ability to read and interpret maps. GIS experience an asset.
Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public.
Familiarity with mapping natural landscape features and reading maps. GIS experience an asset.
Ability to work outdoors in adverse conditions.
Good interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team leader.
Good physical fitness required to perform activities.
Proficiency in MS Office suite including online software such as MS teams, WebEx, and SharePoint.
Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, related regulations and legislation.
Required to lift or carry objects that could weigh up to 50lbs.
Flexibility to work extended hours and evenings.
