Responsibilities

  • Assist in the maintenance of an effective system of financial control systems and activities, with accurate information flows
  • Assist with recording financial transactions
  • Assist in monitoring compliance with established internal control processes.
  • Ensure compliance with centrally established accounting principles and Division requirements
  • Prepare online payments reconciliation schedule on a weekly and timely basis
  • Liaise with the Financial Reporting team to effectively assess risks of noncompliance with established internal controls
  • Identify, plan and perform targeted reviews at various sites to ensure compliance with established internal controls and policies and procedures
  • Summarize school review findings
  • Provide information and recommendations to school management and Division staff
  • Perform followup work subsequent to audit to ensure adequacy and timeliness of corrections
  • Monitor and review various transactions for schools by verifying appropriateness and accuracy of entries
  • Prepare adjustments and corrections and depending on complexity of corrections, complete the transaction on behalf of school / site
  • Assist schools with account code maintenance and compliance with accounting policies and procedures
  • Assist in maintaining established standards for financial and statistical reports
  • Liaise with the Financial Reporting team to assist in implementing necessary coding structure to comply with required
- reporting to Government of Alberta

  • Assist schools in compliance with established procedures
  • Analyze, identify and respond to questions, assist in resolving concerns
  • Promote use of the electronic fee collection system to assist in reducing financial risk and improve accuracy
  • Identify, plan and schedule ongoing training sessions based on assessed needs
  • Train primarily administrative support staff and Business Managers when required, on the utilization of electronic accounting systems and department accounting processes

Qualifications:


  • Diploma in an area related to accounting, plus three years of directly related experience
  • Knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS), financial policies, procedures, accounting and budgeting procedures
  • Strong knowledge of electronic financial systems, (Cayenta, Rycor, Leaf)
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software packages (Excel, databases and reporting) spreadsheet programs,(Excel or Access)
  • Knowledge of project management and instructional techniques
  • Knowledge of Division and department policies, regulations and procedures
  • Knowledge of the schools their programs and financial activities
  • Strong problem solving and analysis skills with the ability to identify problems, solutions and to gauge school staff readiness to work with systems
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to balance conflicting priorities
  • Strong assessment skills to evaluate effectiveness of processes and workflows
  • Clear and concise communication skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to work with varied clients and address difficult situations
