Turning Leaf is a non-profit, charitable organization that provides person-centered, crisis and treatment services to low and high-risk vulnerable and marginalized individuals living with mental illness and intellectual challenge in our community.

Turning Leaf's support is customized to every individual's needs and risk level.

We offer crisis-intervention and treatment services, community support, day program services, residential support (including emergency housing, 24-hour homes, cluster housing, and home share), a harm reduction program, clinical services, indigenous services and more.

ADDICTIONS COUNSELOR


Reporting to the Director of Supported Independent Living, the Addictions Counselor is responsible for providing counselling services to the participants that Turning Leaf supports who are struggling with addictions.


We are seeking to hire Full-Time for this position available weekdays however evening/weekend availability considered an asset (schedule can be flexible).


ESSENTIAL REQUIRMENTS

  • Updated Cover Letter & Resume
  • Clear Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check, Adult and Child Abuse Registry Checks (no older than three months)
  • Masters or PhD level training and experience in mental health, counselling, or social serviced field is required
  • Must be registered with a licensing body (CCPA, CPCA, PAM, CAMFT, etc.) is required
  • A strong background in providing therapeutic services to highneeds and complex clients is required
  • Experience working with people with Intellectual Challenge and mental illness
  • Experience working with the Indigenous population
  • Working in collaboration with our Crisis Intervention team and clinical Team
  • Experience with Trauma and attachment
  • Minimum 3 years related work experience.

SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop a treatment plan for each participant based on the assessment of presenting issues
  • Adapt treatment modalities to the participant's individual characteristics and needs
  • Explore all available resources in maximizing the most effective plan for the participant
  • Utilize an interdisciplinary approach to treatment where appropriate
  • Provide ongoing evaluation and revision of participant's progress and goals
  • Provide appropriate intervention to the participant and the community based on their assessment and treatment plan
  • Provide a range of counseling and education services including individual, group and family services
  • Provide relapse prevention services
  • Assess and provide direct intervention or referral to appropriate service providers/programs
  • Deal effectively with addictive patterns of behavior, concurrent disorders, and other mental health behavioral and emotional concerns such as abuse, violence, grief, and loss
  • Record casenotes, and produce participantrelated documentation such as reports according to accepted practices and policies
  • Maintain regular contact with participant referrals according to the frequency and method desired by the particular referral in order to keep them apprised of participant progress and/or difficulties
  • Intervene as advocate for participants to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations
  • Complete and maintain accurate records and reports regarding the participant's histories and progress, services provided and other required information
