Position Summary


This position provides required sanitation, cleaning, and custodial service to custodial standards at various Community Services (Calgary) sites ensuring the building and site environment is healthy and comfortable.

Provides assistance with the maintenance of the building exterior and interior and the surrounding grounds.


Hours/Schedule
Regular Full Time - 40 hours per week.

  • Various rotating shifts, including evenings and weekends at both West and East Campus._

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Cleans, sanitizes, sweeps, dusts, mops, washes, vacuums, polishes, and waxes floors.
  • Cleans windows, mirrors, woodwork, furniture, equipment, and other surfaces.
  • Cleans washroom facilities and shower rooms.
  • Cleans offices, classrooms, and other rooms.
  • Supplies toilet paper, paper towels, soap, and other hygiene items.
  • Empties trash bins and dispose of trash in the garbage compactor or garbage bins.
  • Cleans, sterilizes and/or disinfects areas.
  • Cleans, sterilizes and/or disinfects equipment before and after each use.
  • Spot cleans carpets and performs general carpet cleaning, as required.
  • Performs more extensive cleaning, carpet cleaning, stripping and waxing floors, and light maintenance during nonpeak programming periods.
  • Organizes and maintains janitorial supplies in janitorial room(s) and on janitorial carts.
  • Follows established procedures and documentation for inventory tracking.
  • Informs supervisor of general repairs and maintenance items required.
  • Lifts and moves furniture as requested.
  • Works independently or cooperatively with team members to complete tasks on schedule and according to quality standards.
  • Attends mandatory training and specialized work training when scheduled.
  • Performs laundry service as required by program/department needs.
  • Removes snow and ice from sidewalks and parking lots, cleaning sidewalks and removing litter.
  • Complies with all prescribed sanitation and building disinfecting protocols.
  • Attend meetings as requested by the supervisor.
  • Maintains the grounds in a tidy condition by mowing lawn, raking, weeding, pruning shrubs, and watering trees.

Working conditions:


  • Required to work at various Community Services (Calgary) sites, which includes traveling between sites using personal and/or company vehicle daily.
  • Exposed to weather as work is done indoors and outdoors in all seasons.
  • Moving furniture, pushing and pulling, as well as lifting items up to 50 lbs.
  • Handles garbage and cleans up human waste and biohazard substances.
  • Exposure to odours, toxic chemicals, electrical hazards, and infectious diseases.

Experience, skills and capabilities:


  • Some High School.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's licence and satisfactory Driver's Abstract.
  • Personal vehicle, and insurance, available for work business purposes.
  • Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
  • Child Intervention Check if working in the vicinity of children.
  • At least three months of prior related experience in life skills and general familiarity with cleaning and maintenance procedures.
  • Must be physically able to stand and/or walk for long periods of time, being on their feet all day.
  • Able to lift, push, and pull various items such as custodial equipment, furniture and other items.
  • Able to climb, and work from, ladders at heights of up to 15 feet.
  • Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Selfdirected and able to take initiative.
  • Able to communicate and work well with people.
