- Registration with the College of Psychotherapy or College of Social Workers or another recognized professional college is a requirement prior to or within a year of commencing employment.
- Must have at least 5 years of recent experience working with children, adolescents and/or families in a mental health clinical capacity.
- A related university degree is an asset.
- Addictions related courses an asset.
- Very strong interviewing skills with clients, and experience as an intake counsellor is a definite asset.
- Must have experience assessing high risk clients and responding appropriately (e.g., Certification in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills is an asset.
- Extensive knowledge of community resources or a willingness to learn.
- Understanding of crisis intervention and trauma informed care preferred.
- Proficient in typing and competent in the use of computers.
- Must be able to use an electronic medical record.
- Knowledge of the people, culture and mental health priorities of First Nations communities in the Sioux Lookout region.
- Ability to communicate in one or more of the First Nations dialects of the Sioux Lookout region will be an asset.
- Previous experience working with First Nations communities an asset.
- Conducts intakes which include assessing client, their personal, social and mental health needs and safety, and their needs and goals for counselling.
- Provides client-centered, trauma informed brief phone support if required before entry to a service.
- Upon completion of intake, collaborate with Nodin's team to make a smooth transition of care, including attending case reviews as necessary.
- Maintain accurate, factual, and objective typewritten records in a timely manner on all aspects of clinical care.
- Receive training that is applicable to this position.
- Handling of sensitive/confidential material strictly in confidence in accordance with office policy/PIPEDA/PHIPA.
- Other duties as assigned by the Immediate Supervisor.

Description
They will conduct intake assessments, provide additional clinical assessment, crisis intervention, safety planning, harm reduction education to pending clients as required.
The Clinical Intake/Assessment Counsellor works in close collaboration with all community resources and develops strong working relationships with all referral sources.
Minimum level of education required is equivalent to high school graduation and completion of a diploma training program, specific to mental health or equivalent education at a recognized college.
