Stonehenge delivers long-term, intensive residential treatment services to those whose addiction/concurrent presentations are complex. Many of our clients enter treatment directly from the Federal and Provincial correctional systems.

About the Role:


In a Residential treatment environment, the Addiction Counsellor works with individuals who have acute and/or chronic addiction issues and concurrent issues.

Our Therapists engage in clinical counselling.

As part of our Program, our Counsellors also become part of the overall Community, and engage in community living activities with our residents including mealtimes and recreation activities.

Stonehenge is one of only two funded Therapeutic Communities in Ontario.

This is an excellent opportunity for those interested in working with a specialized approach to addiction treatment and recovery from substance use.


Hours of Work:


  • Days (7:30am to 5:30pm)
  • Monday to Thursday
  • Additional oncall responsibilities (on a rotational basis), therefore some evening, weekend and/or overnight work may be required to support the staff team

Qualifications:


  • Completion of a BSW, MSW or other University Degree relevant to mental health, addiction or Social Services
  • Registration with CRPO or OCSWSSW required
  • Minimum one year of progressive experience in addictions or mental health; experience in concurrent disorders or trauma informed practice an asset
  • Certified Addictions Counsellor or equivalent an asset
  • Previous experience in residential treatment an asset
  • Previous experience with correctional clients and knowledge of institutionalization an asset
  • Food Handlers Certification an asset
  • Lived experience related to addictions and/or mental health an asset
  • Valid G Driver's License for a minimum of 3 years (G2 or greater)
  • Satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record
  • Reliable vehicle/own transportation not on a bus route
  • CSC Clearance conducted by PWGS Canada
  • Mandatory on call duty, on a rotational basis
  • Standard First Aid/CPR Level C
  • Must be able to attend work (travel to Residential Centres) within an hour of notification, when on call

Role Overview:


  • Provide group therapy, and psychoeducational programming/services
  • Develop individual treatment and risk mitigation plans with residents and complete required assessments, reports and documentation
  • Utilize evidenceinformed practices including (but not limited to) Motivational Interviewing, Stage-Matched Intervention, Trauma-Informed approaches, CBT and DBT
  • Attend both clinical and administrative meetings
  • Monitor resident progress and coordinate resident treatment
  • Provide Clinical Consultation to Therapeutic Community team
  • Participate in program development & evaluation and complete statistics
  • On a rotational basis, provides oncall services during evenings and weekends
  • Respond to crisis and urgent situations
  • Liaise with family members, correctional and community agencies as required
  • Participate in program development activities as required
  • Involvement in program evaluation, data collection/input into CaseWORKS
  • In accordance with a Therapeutic Community Treatment Model, make decisions with a teambased approach
  • Support referrals to internal and/or external programs or services, as appropriate
