Description

The Tenant Support Worker provides the Portfolio Property Manager with direct support in tenants relations, tenant obligations and provides administrative support to the Housing Office.


The Tenant Support Worker will provide support, develop skills and access resources to increase the capacity and satisfaction in the living, working, learning and/or social environments of their choice.

They provide services directly or facilitate and co-ordinate access to services on site and in the community.


This position will provide and established working relationship with diverse tenant populations from various socioeconomic backgrounds and support overcoming challenges living in a social housing environment.


Qualifications:

  • 2 years direct support work with individuals or families with multiple barriers to maintain successful housing
  • 2 years recent related experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Knowledge or relevant legislation and social housing programs generally gained through direct working experience, such as the Rental Tenancy Act and BC Housing
  • Completion of a diploma or certificate program in Community Social Services or related discipline
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of community resources and methods of access
  • Knowledge of current social issues such as poverty, homelessness, mental illness, addiction, domestic violence, child protection etc
  • Strong skills in crisis intervention, mediation and conflict resolution
  • Ability to build and maintain professional, confidential relationships with multibarriered persons
  • Ability to work effectively across organizational departments and in a team and collaborative context
  • Working knowledge of the Residential Tenancy Act and applicable Health and Safety Regulations
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and time management skills
  • Preferably with a valid class 5 BC driver's license and access to a reliabel vehicle
  • Ability to communicate in English effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to deal with others effectively and with discretion
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills and software programs such as Microsoft Office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with tenants to provide information and support related to breaches of the Tenancy Agreement, including but not limited to hoarding, pest control and sanitary conditions.
  • Assist with new tenant orientation and adherence to the tenancy agreement and policies.
  • Conduct monthly unit inspections as required to help tenants maintain their housing
  • Support tenants in accessing community information or resources, including assisting tenants to obtain necessary documentation for annual income reviews
  • Respond to disputes between tenants and foster problemsolving skills
  • Interact with tenants, observe tenant behavior. Respond to disturbances, complaints, emergencies, and other incidents involving the health, safety, quiet enjoyment and security of tenants by attending to the incident, investigating, documenting and reporting incidents to appropriate staff and contacting appropriate emergency response authorities
  • Establish a positive working relationship with external agencies and other resources within the community
  • Provide administrative assistance to the Housing office by covering the position of Property Portfolio Assistant (PPA) during absences which may include receiving rent, arranging pest control services, answering the phone, responding to office visits and tenant requests
  • Attends and participates in meetings and committees
  • Performs other related duties, as required

$28.00-$30.00 per hour
